As soon as we started to see the amount of money being spent on new recruits, even in defensive positions we didn't particularly need, I think it was fairly obvious Grabban wasn't going to stay. He's just not going to be good enough at this level nor does he have the physical attributes we seem to be demanding in all of our players, whether that is strength, height, pace or stamina.

Plenty of time to find a replacement as it's only a back up we need. Worst case scenario we can always just loan in a player (from abroad if we've used the other British loan spot).

Best of luck Grabs. Been a good pro here.

Let the age of gifs begin! (I blame StuC and his way-too-easy-to-use forum upgrade.)

Fantastic servant to the club. One of our best signings in the past decade, IMO. A positive influence in the dressing room, and a top goalscorer.

I'd have liked to see him stay for another year to help with the transition, but no hard feelings to him at all. He wouldn't get much playing time here.

So long, Lewis. Thank you, and good luck.

Absolutely this.

Yes we paid a wedge for him, yes he was at the tail end of his career and yes, he was one of our top earners - but he's one of the few to have actually delivered what we expected of him - despite being written off seemingly every season by our own fans and getting some awful racist (and borderline racist) abuse from most opposition fans.

Will be remembered in the same bracket as our other great goal scorers for me.

There's only positives about Grabban. He'll provide a real threat for any championship side with goals and the way he holds the ball up is superb. He certainly went out on a high. Shame he could stick around, I'm certain he get get goals in the prem

Boro will surely be after grabban , they are in need of strikers and wilder loves his cooper strikers,i.e brewster and mcburnie. they can afford grabban fat wages and grabban is still capable in the championship

I'd say Boro or West Brom seem likely destinations if he stays in England.

Funny how badly that documentary painted his character.

We have seen the complete opposite here.
Been a brilliant pro and servant to the club here.

Sunderland were such a circus back then, so you can hardly blame him for wanting out. Made the play-offs with Villa then came here and got promoted so he certainly did the right thing for his career.

He looked shot after his injury. Hopefully a good pre season will get him back to fitness and back in the goals in the Championship.

Grabbs has been a good servant and his goals will have kept us up in the Championship over the years because we've watched some rammel, but it's time to move on if he doesn't want to take a drop in wages which he can quite rightly ask for elsewhere.

I wish he was staying to be honest. I’m sure he will get a good move as he hasn’t forgot how to hit the back of the net.

One of the relegated teams could do a lot worse than Grabban on a 1 or 2 year deal.

thing is most of his purple patches have come when he's had a run in the side. During the initial games back in the side he usually looks a bit rusty and that's in the division below.

Not really convinced keeping Grabban as a sub / cover player in the PL is necessarily going to work. As you say he'll probably end up at one of the relegated sides or a parachute team or somewhere like the MLS or Qatar where he'll get paid a lot for not doing an awful lot.

As he barely played much since Christmas there are also questions about whether he would be fit enough or how much the injuries he has had have affected his game.

Classy striker. Hard to say but maybe his goals kept us in the Championship...even though he was bought to take us to the Premier League. At 34 years old and liable to be missing with injury, it was time to move on. Won't miss that 'beard'.

Gutted he has gone. However, he can still do a job for a team in the Championship.

If he decides to move into coaching I hope we offer him a position at the club.
