Unfortunately, the closest one to me in Bakersfield, The Free Man on Carlton Road, is a bit of a shit-hole. I've no problem with the TBI and the ones in Sherwood, Mapperley, Arnold and Hucknall. Closer to town, the one next to the Arboretum is agreeable enough and also the Roebuck when it has enough staff behind the bar.

Basically the ones that used to be pubs taken over by Wetherspoons are fine. The purpose built ones are soulless dives. Pretty sure the one next to Market Square used to be a Halfords!
