He did a great job for us, and at the time I hoped we would be able to buy him. However, that injury curse is going to stay with him, at most he seems to only be able to play 50% of the time. Wish him well as he is one of the best loan players I can think of.

Him, Spence, Garner and Zinckernagel aren't a bad batch of loan signings are they? Especially for a lower table Championship side, as we were.

Max Lowe was there too...those first four really were good though weren't they!! lol

Nice piece in The Athletic on him today which can be found under the Forest section. Didn’t realise he’s notched 10 goals in Serie A this season. Glad to see he sees to be over his injury problems.
He was brilliant for us in what he did but if he's scored 10 goals in Serie A this season it' just shows why we should be very wary of entering that market again.

Not sure.

From what we saw in the promotion season he has a useful blend of pace, power and skill. Perhaps a bit similar in style to Mateta.

If there are doubts about him keeping in the right condition to play well then that would hold him back more than anything else. I think if that wasn't the case he would have been kept on by us or even Villa.

If they've worked on those issues whilst he's in Italy and he's now keeping available and scoring goals then that puts a doubt aside over how well he might adapt to the PL.

Just because some of the players we have had from there have either not appeared to be very good or not really settled doesn't mean we shouldn't go back although Serie A is weaker than a while back. I think the sample is:
Freuler - the right player at the wrong time because his strengths didn't fit within our tactical setup at the time. Would probably look different if signed now
Dominguez - I think his value to the team and the squad is pretty obvious
Milenkovic - speaks for itself
Ndoye - there is something in him, whether it's just settling or something, or he's better more centrally, or just a confidence thing, he was OK at the start and then tailed off after a few matches. Could be a player we're judging too soon
Lucca - scored within a few minutes on the pitch but for a while didn't seem to offer anything. I think it's obvious what kind of skills he can bring, but that the manager who brought him in (although he's only on loan) and some aspects of that style don't go down well with fans no matter what the outcome. It could well be possible he has something to say for the rest of the season but doubt we will be keeping him after then, although we don't know the Wood situation...

One important point in the Athletic piece is that he says he’s stopped doing upper body workouts because he felt the extra muscle was putting more strain on his lower body. Since he stopped he hasn’t been injured.

I did wonder if that was partly Taiwo's problem over the last couple of years...

He seems to have slimmed down a little bit over the last year.

He looks noticeably smaller in size since he’s come back. I admit I completely wrote him off but he’s looked good coming off the bench.

I have this theory about big strong units in football, especially fast ones. I just think they are more likely to get injured. Big T hasn’t had a run of games lately which doesn’t help but he never really played over 60 mins from what i remember and now more likely 30. But in rugby league your big forwards are interchanged and only do short spells as their energy saps quicker.

I remember when pep took over at city an he had loads of players in his office and ask them to lose weight, even players like David silva who made Gary Crosby look overweight was asked to lose a few kilos, as he believed any excess weight just puts strain on the body and increases the likelihood of injury.

Still the best hold up man I've seen in football, and thats including almost 4 years of the Prem now.

His 10 goals certainly underpins how wary we should be when signing players from Serie A however.

Yes, it’s a fantastic piece and he’s finally, finally, managed to get on top of his injury woes.

He stopped training his upper body, as he just has to look at weights to pile on muscle, as it was putting too much stress on his legs - quads and hamstrings - with the resultant injuries.

He even devised a specialised pre-season strengthening regime for his legs.

And, so far, it has worked.

As, previously, he says he couldn’t play 90 minutes due to risk of injury and couldn’t even sprint all out due to injury risk.

Now, he feels much more confident, can push himself to the limit at 90 minutes and beyond and score late goals - and some of the goals have been amazing this season.

I really rated him in the Forest promotion season, as he came in January on loan, but the rumours were that Villa wanted 15-20 million for someone exceptionally injury prone.

Really pleased he’s sorted out his injury problems; real shame it couldn’t have been solved 10 years ago as he’s now 28.

An absolute beast of a player with enormous pace and power in abundance.

I remember him dragging Forest up the pitch by sheer power and pace - like a focused Rhino!

Weight for any athlete is problematic unless that weight is focused muscle for explosive short bursts, hence why some beefy players do struggle with prem league football. There are exceptions Maradonna, cheating little bastard yes but his engine.. fuelled by drugs was astonishing.

That’s the point really, football players have become athletes. No more Robbo on the wing smoking a fag, built like a brick shit house..

Forest’s players are athletes, Neco Williams maybe the fittest footballer in the prem?

Which is why I am never massively surprised by long term injuries or ones that persist like Woody has. That level of training tends to leave you on a knife edge and it is really easy for something to just go ping and you are out for ages.

Been in the middle of a bit of a horrid incident, has in my opinion been racially abused by Alberto Dossena in a game. He got booked for protesting but in fairness to the referee it was rescinded when he realised what had happened.

Udinese have come out swinging and Keinan has also named and shamed Dossena on social media describing him as a racist. Zaniola has very strong words condemning Dossena as well.

It's an awful part of the game that seems be even more overtly rife in Italy/Spain.

Hope he doesn't let the bigots get him down, always welcome back at the wfcg.
