Joseph Adrian Worrall (The Former Club Captain!)

Where's me hammer?
Saw online a few weeks back our last game before lock down, a game v Milwall where Matt Smith absolutely bullied Joe, them kind of players are Joe's Krytonite, a similar player from Luton finished him here.

When you look at what we have now, it's night and day.

Hope he smashes it but we always needed better.

Joe’s career seems to have really taken a nose-dive.
In our promotion season we were worried he would be snapped up by a Premier League club.
I think Burnley were offering £12 million, but Forest held out, and Joe led us to a Wembley win.
Now, he can’t get a kick for Burnley.
I reckon Mansfield could do worse than making a cheeky summer window bid for him.

There was never any serious interest in Joe at the eight figure fees we leaked as a buying price to the media when he'd not long broken into the first team and I don't think we received any interest in that promotion season either.

The reality is a he's ten a penny Championship centre back. Not overly tall, fast or strong nor good passing ability. Just does the basics well. But those sorts of players can be picked up on frees most of the time and don't usually make for good PL defenders.

Not to take anything away from him by the way. He's done well for himself as a career and served us well.

I had it on good authority that Joe had several offers from Premier League clubs during our promotion season, but loyalty to the Club and a desire to lead Forest to the top league made him reject them.

Yeah he’s a top champ centre back and probably the perfect age for physicality and experience. If you go to a club and have a spell of injury then it is always difficult.

He can't get a kick because their defence has been absolutely rock solid without him in it, not because he's a poor player

They've only conceded eleven goals all season which is insane, they're not going to mess about with that setup regardless of how good Joe is

He's a top centre back at Championship level, it's not representative of his quality that he was sidelined with a broken foot whilst in the meantime Burnley's defence was keeping clean sheets for fun

Were they We buy any car type offers ?

Matt and several others always helped themselves to plenty of goals against us, they were good players but we lacked the physical capability to counter them. McKenna was probably the first of the more physical centre backs we had but then he was really only that good in the 2nd tier. When we came up we got Boly who was probably the first class act dominant centre back we had at the top level - Cooper, Chettle and Hjelde weren't really - and then of course Milenkovic has made the real difference.

When we came up a lot on here thought that our back 3 of Cook, McKenna and Worrall didn't need replacing. After a few weeks of letting in 3 every week obviously that turned out not to be true.

Worrall would probably be fine alongside someone like Nikola but then neither of them are particularly mobile, for a tall defender in the PL he needs to be more physical but he's too young to be more physical now.

Apparently Joseph has done one of those pod cast things and said stuff.

Could someone who's listened please do me a Janet and John summary please and thank you

From the clip I saw of it Worrall confirms the falling out with Cooper, says he needed help and an arm around him in December because of personal off the field stuff but Cooper didn't give it, but admits he could have dealt with the situation better himself, sums it up as just one of those things that happens in football.

On the one hand, he said some of the right things but him not really being arsed about watching if Yates ain't playing felt a little telling.
I can understand his frustrations with not playing but unfortunately, the club as much as anything outgrew Joe and needed to level itself up to stay in the league.

As for Cooper not giving him support, I think if you look at what was going on in that November/December, Steve was fighting for his job and he was basically being squeezed out of a job behind the scenes so I can understand if Steve overlooked him in truth. Whatever happened between them, the fact Joe only played another minute for the club leads me to believe that the club was keen for him to be moved on and the contract he received was essentially for the club to get some money for him towards PSR, as someone would have waited for him to leave for nothing.

I don't think Joe can have any qualms about that, especially since had either Burnley or Brentford stumped up the reddies then he'd have gone while we were in the Championship, that's football.

I'd love to hear Steve's version of this but I suspect we'll never get it.

The timeline from what i remember was the awful tragedy to Joes uncle, Chelsea away win with Joe getting MOTM and his best display since promotion the very week after the tragedy. Plays in the draw at home to Burnley Wily Boly comes back from injury and is chosen ahead of him for the City, Brentford and Palace games (this is also when Murillo makes his debut forcing McKenna/Niakhate out)

Then the pivotal match of it all seemed to be the Luton game, he is brought on as the "Morato sub" to see out the game while being up 2-0. Gets ragdolled by Adebayo for their equaliser and Coops points this out in the post match interview that we weren't strong enough in our own box, that it was too easy and unforgivable at this level. He doesn't mention Joe but its clearly about Joe.

Next match against Villa he is not included in the squad - i can't remember if he actually pulled out of the squad or ruled himself out of selection, maybe someone has a better memory?

He had just signed a new 2 and a half year deal in August. He was the club captain but obviously blew a gasket after the Luton game and didn't feel supported by Coops given what had happened - just guesswork on my behalf.

But if i'm looking at it in the cold light of day Joes mouth went overboard in the aftermath of the Luton game. especially as club captain and he binned off the Villa game (which we won) and was sent to the reserves.

Fantastic servant but ultimately just not good enough for the PL. The difference in Joe and Yatesy is Yatesy accepts being benched for x amount of games and comes back like a demon with determination to win his spot back, and he has been doing that since we got promoted.

Something may have gone off between Coops and Worrall that we're not privy too, but I doubt that there is any animosity between the club as a whole and Joe. I wouldn't be surprised if the club would have been happy for him to stay but be far down the pecking order (4th or 5th choice), which is fair enough, and also fair enough for him to seek out 1st team football. In the words of a certain ex-manager it is what it is. Hope he does really well at Burnley and gets another crack at the Prem. Good luck Joe!
Did the truth ever come out.

Surely its well known now, I've not read through the entire final pages of this to see if its out or not.

Not sure it has.

I'd imagine the only way we would hear what happened is if Joe said, I guess in a similar manner to Lolley, but despite what happened I'd imagine he loves the club too much to do that.

The Lolley story shows that Cooper did definitely have a ruthless streak and in actual fact it was probably the right thing for Lolley to move on at the time, although the way it was done, wasn't particularly fair on the player.

I wonder if basically the idea that Joe wasn't going to be good enough was the key point. We'd struggled for clean sheets when he played (even alongside Felipe) the year before, and although he had a bit of a tragedy with his uncle or whoever it was, he still wanted to play (perhaps this wasn't wise) and also when he'd played aside from that there had been some things which hadn't gone so well, for example the Luton match, we had other options at CB and Joe had enough chances to show he was good enough for one of them. There may have been some fall out between them about it and clearly he was doing as well as he could, and maybe the odd text message (!) but there probably isn't much of a story to tell really.

Here is what I have been told about it.

Joe is 100% Forest through and through , absolutely loves the team which we all know.

There was a dressing room altercation between Joe and Sangare.
Sangare was apparently giving it the big man talk , something that Sangare said regarding money and the club or something.

Joe apparently hit Sangare and thats what led to the Cooper fall out and Joe not playing again for us.

Obviously around the time was the Nottingham tragedy and we all know how that got to Joe. It was personal to him .

Joe's actually doing well now and has some good relationships with the Forest lads and former team mates also.

That would be surprising, as there have been multiple reports that Sangare is a massive introvert and didn't even know English for about the first year he was here.

So seems very inconsistent that something like that would have occurred leading to Worrall being bombed out less than 2 months after Sangare arrived at the club.

Probably the same source that reported Keylor Navas had spent a night in the cells after being caught drunk driving!

As others have said, good Championship player, but no where near good enough for Premier League. I actually thought he would be, but after seeing just what a massive step up it is, it is clear he has no chance. Wish him all the best, he comes across as a top pro. However, really hope never to see him in a Forest shirt again as that means we have gone down
