Newcastle gave the VfB €85m for Nick Woltemade.

Now, I’ve loved watching Nick play football over the last season, but as VfB Sporting Director Florian Wohlgemuth said, that sort of „Premier League“ money is ridiculous and you cannot turn it down.
100% agree with this - JSL knows the premier league, I'd have spent the money on him over Woltemade (although his ceiling may be higher - "Woltemessi" etc etc)

Like Dyche, I like a big punt.

(I rate strand Larsen in the same way I like Mateta - anyone who gives Milenkovic a tough time is fine by me. Mateta ragdolled Felipe of all people!)
Mateta is a class act. Wonder how much he would cost us

As I have posted before, I’m a great fan of the „Two-Meter Messi“ having watched him blossom at the VfB.

Funnily enough, he would have been ideal for a Dyche team as well.

There was that Adebayo guy at Luton who got double figures too, probably plenty of others who scored goals in crap teams one season and turned out to not be very good.

Did somebody say Michu?

Basically if we can sell Kalimuendo and McAtee for near what we got for them (and one deal is half done-ish) we can easily afford £40m for Strand-Larsen. Whether that’s good value is a different matter. There’s clearly a bit of wriggle room this window.
We can't really rely on the Kalimuendo fee until Frankfurt trigger the purchase option, which is unlikely to be until after the window closes.

We'll have other deals lined up to cover things - I'd be very surprised if a couple were asked to have a crack at the European competition this year and be allowed to move on.

Dangerous game if so. Could result in having to lose a prize asset on the cheap before June 30th if they don't trigger that purchase option.

Either way, I think JSL is about as likely to sign for us this window as Wrexham are likely to win the FA Cup personally.
Doubt it. It’s the summer we’ll need to sell. As another post said above any JSL deal would only be another £4m or so on top of the existing expenses for this season.

Or even less depending on how it’s structured. It’s all hypotheticals at this point.

I don't think most of our crosses are actually very good. Meat and drink kind of stuff to most centre halves.

Even our corners often struggle to even beat the first man. Without service, he'll struggle as much here as he has at Wolves this season.
100% - I watched MOTD enviously last night wondering what makes lads like Tavernier so special that they can put a ball into the box reliably with pace. There was even people on the other end anticipating end. Mind blowing.

After the Everton game, I think I saw enough useless crosses to last a lifetime!

Doesn't matter how tall or good in the air a striker is, the service we provide them is either crap or non-existent.

Even against West Ham, there were crosses from Hutchinson and Bakwa (that led to their disallowed goal) that I would have been genuinely embarrassed to have done myself.

Makes virtually no difference to this years accounts whether the Kali purchase option is triggered or not. We won’t be making a profit on him, it would just effectively wipe the future amortisation of his transfer fee from future years accounts.

I’m also minded to agree with your second paragraph though!

Williams is one of the worst offenders …

Better tactics yes, as well as more creativity in midfield and more support upfront.

Igor Jesus barely gets any service and is 30-40 yards away from his nearest teammate most of the time. I'm amazed anyone thinks that spending our entire budget on another striker is the silver bullet to end our problems.

He’s out on the wing too often as well

We need both IMO - a good striker and a change in attacking tactics. We’ve had no patterns of play going forwards since about April.

The Bakwa one was clearly a pull back to Aina, he just didn't pull it back far enough.

It amazes me how many attempted crosses don't get above two foot from the ground!!

Yes it was, but my point was regarding how bad the delivery is. It’s astounding how poor some of it has been, when players are in space and under little pressure too. At least we scored from a corner I guess.

100% agreed.

And our penalty also came from a half decent set piece too.

I’m amazed at how little CHO delivers with any quality from open play. And he gets away with it as far as the team selections and support are concerned too.
