Palace close to agreeing £50m deal to sign Strand Larsen

Latest from Sky Sports News' Lyall Thomas, James Savundra and Kaveh Solhekol:

Crystal Palace are close to agreeing a £50m deal with Wolves for Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The package being discussed is understood to include a £45m guaranteed fee and £5m in add-ons.

Advanced negotiations are ongoing and no formal bid has been lodged but one is expected.

Sky Sports News understands Palace are looking to sign Strand Larsen regardless of what happens with Jean-Philippe Mateta's future.
Palace will only sell Mateta if his £40m valuation is met and they are happy to have both players in their squad.

Leeds remain interested in Strand Larsen and have also been expected to make another bid before the deadline after seeing their first one rejected.

There aren't many Prem proven strikers around, Man U have wasted 70m+ on countless players, Gycores shows every one is a risk.

40m for Mateta is a snip. I hope we aren't dragging our feet over 5m.
Fully agree

We all know prices have gone up a lot over the past few years.

£35m for a proven PL striker is a good deal, much like us paying £15m for Wood a few years ago despite the protestations. Wood would have gone for double that at today's prices.

I doubt we are, he is probably just waiting to see if any better offers come in.

I'm not sure what people are expecting for a proven Premierl League striker in the January transfer window

£40m seems like very good business to me

Arteta didn't want him which is probably another reason he's not done well there. Sesko was the player Arteta actually wanted but the not Edu sporting director there wanted Gyokeres instead.

If Marinakis wants this to happen then it's as good as done.

The key is whether Mateta is prepared to make what could be seen, at least in footballing terms, as a sideways move. Money will play a part of course especially at his age but if someone bigger/richer comes in then it might not.

Even if he does sign I think there'll be a gentleman's agreement that he signs after the deadline for the Sunday game.

Sounds like this Edu character has absolutely ruined the Arsenal there, I’m glad he’s nowhere near Forest!!

Tbf. Gyokeres is performing slightly better than Sesko is - although neither pulling up any trees. Igor Jesus has scored more goals than both of them (in all comps)

Fulkrug £30m
Barry £30m
Beto £30m
Evanilson £40m
Igor Thiago £35m - although having a good season
Rutter £45m
Broja £20m
Kostoulas £35m

Are any of these better than Mateta? I would say no, and if you do think they are better, you would absolutely take them here.

Prices in PL is crazy and when you look what clubs are paying for players, even players with no PL experience, I don't think neither 50 million for JSL nor 40 million for Mateta is absurd in any way. It's actually in the lower ranges for a striker who is PL-proven with goals on his CV

£50m for JSL is mad. Basically paying it for 14 goals last season. I know the market is crazy but is that really the price for one season with a good goal return?

With Solanke, Richarlison and Muani, I just don't see them dropping £35m on Mateta.
Richarlison is injured, Muani linked with Juve and Solanke just back from injury. If Mateta does go to Spurs then we should take Solanke and keep the merry-go-round running :dancingb:

Not sure how accurate that is. Edu left Arsenal in November 2024 which was 8 months before the 2025 transfer window open which both Sesko and Gyokeres move i

It also appears that Berta was the one who wanted Gyokeres and Arteta was happy with that thinking it was the correct decision.
