Claimed on Under The Cosh that he was basically told he wouldn't play again after Villa, never kicked off like it was said in the paper and when he wanted to leave to Turkey, we apparently said either he had to terminate two years money or come back to England right as the window was about to shut.

Maybe it's bullshit, but then we've done some wild things behind the scenes over the years under Marinakis so I could sort of believe it.
Do like under the cosh but they don't exactly challenge any wild claims that are made on it by anybody.

I imagine there was an attempt to get him to give up 2 years money and that is pretty usual in terms of football clubs trying it on with players but as we saw with Arter its not something that can be enforced in reality.

From the other perspective you have someone demanding two years wages to not complete 2 years work so trying to get £4m wages a year off the books isn't crime of the century.

I would guesstimate that the eventual result was that things landed nearer to his asks than the clubs but its not unusual for peoples start position to be the ideal situation for them.

His issue was that there was no viable interest in taking him on for the wages he demanded and we were daft enough to offer.

Whether his claims are true or not, I couldn't possibly know.

I do know that he very much undersold just how bad he was for us though. He held his hands up for the Villa mistake - but he made out that was the only blemish on his record which certainly wasn't the case.

Yeah he said that Cooper told him that it wasn’t his decision and that it came from “above” after his mistake v Villa, that he would never play for Forest again. AND the head of recruitment at the time got the sack the next day for bringing him in 😂

What Cooper actually said: "I am the manager and I make the decisions around here."

Regardless of how crap he was, its not a great look for our chairman to be deciding a player isnt going to ever play for us again 2 months into a 2.5 year contract. Its certainly believable though.
Almost as good as deciding a manager is sacked after 39 days, less than 2 months - but still far too long!

I bet Shelvey didn't mention his alledgedly appalling behaviour in a pub in Caythorpe where the manager in my opinion was subjected to homophobic abuse in my opinion maybe

I hope EM told him to f*** right off
Ah, the Old Vol in Caythorpe. The pub that had to email its locals to apologise for forcing them out to make room for the beautiful people. And Shelvey, apparently
Used to have some good lock-ins there back in the 80s.

We didn't do our due diligence and bought him based on some football manager stats alone.

We had a reasonably tight-knit squad and we brought in a disruptive, all about me player.

We have given other players who've had a bad start to their careers like Chris Wood and Neco Wiliams time, because they weren't utter thundercunts.

Note how the following season we didn't make the same mistake. Dominguez, Sangare, Aina, Elanga, CHO, Sels, Murillo.... All decent guys who are team players.

Character first, talent second.

You need both, but a club built around the former won't go far wrong.

Our success has largely been built around the academy and having a core of Forest lads ready to dig in. Yates, Worrall, Johnno, Cash etc... Marinakis needs to reduce his agent-lust and get the basics back in track again.

Seeing only 1 academy player half-threatening the squad currently does not bode well for our future. Especially as some of the players said academy lads are behind the queue in, such as Kali and McAtee, aren't remotely suited to the current setup.

I see the point you are making but you have cherry picked all the good signings we made in 23/24 and omitted all the bad ones.

Origi, Ribero, Tavares, Turner, Vlach, Montiel, Reyna...............

And obviously we had a better budget that season too. No way could we have signed most of your list in Summer 22.

None of the players you mentioned were self centred pricks that mouthed off about each other mid-game after they'd made a mistake...

... Nor acted hard man in a pub for no reason.

Fair enough you clearly have a much better knowledge than me of all the on pitch conversations and all the pub activities of all our players.
