Why did Clough sell Robbo to the Sheep?
And why did it cause the breakdown in Clough & Taylor’s relationship?
I was I Exeter at that time, and never knew the background.

It’s taken me a couple of days to process this loss. I know he was poorly but I didn’t expect it just yet.

If it wasn’t for Robbo then I probably wouldn’t be posting this at all. John Robertson was one of the main reasons, no, the main reason my sister followed Forest during the magical years. She travelled to watch them whilst I was left at home watching brief highlights on the tv when I could. The excitement was infectious and when the time was right, I took my place at the City Ground.

We’ll never know a player like Robbo ever again. They broke the mould.

So, today I lay some flowers as a thank you to a great player, a great winger and a great man.

Thank you. ❤️

Thats exactly how I feel.

Robbo was a year older than my Dad is.. I wouldn't say it frightened me, but, its made me more aware of mortality in the past few days...

From my selfish optics, his passing was another reminder about my childhood memories fading away somewhere. Moments that stand out was Robbo’s goal against Hamburg. It’s had an indelible effect immortalising Nottingham Forest for all we stand for, the underdog that can make a difference.

It was mooted that Robbo went to the sheep because the bastards offered more money, he loved PT - and most of all, he wanted to provide for his sick daughter.
That's the top man that he was.

Just had a quick look on the bin dippers site and some great tribute's on there. Obviously singing the praises of John's work with Martin when they were there
Plenty of them ripping their own club to pieces because there,s been nothing official from Leicester.

I have a Robbo story to tell that is as much about the gaffer to be honest. Many years ago I went to a players reunion at Forest organised by Mike West who had the paper shop on the corner virtually opposite the T.B.I. The two speakers were John McGovern and Duncan McKenzie and there were players from the 50s like Billy Gray and Peter Hindley, Henry Newton and Frank Wignall could not be separated all night. After John McGovern's introduction someone shouted to John "Tell us a Cloughie story that we won't have heard " so he says that Cloughie went up to McGovern at the start of one season and says "I've bought Asa Hartford to replace you John" so McGovern just says Fair Enough to Cloughie. At the first training session with Hartford every time he gets the ball Cloughie shouts " Pass it to Robertson" and then there's a halt in the session and Hartford goes up to McGovern and says "What's all this pass it to Robertson all about" ? and McGovern suggests he goes and asks Cloughie and Hartford says " I will " to which McGovern thinks You Bloody Fool. Nevertheless he does go and ask the manager. To which Cloughie replies ( Adopt best Cloughie impression) " Simple young man, he's a footballer you never will be" True story

I must admit that I don’t remember much about Asa Hartford… except the song. 😉

All I want is a boat

(Not a rowing boat)
I’d love to know if the “espionage” visa statement was true, I love naughtiness!

My first game at WFCG was 42 years ago (27 Dec interestingly!) against Coventry and I went with my Dad and Auntie (the latter still being a ST holder with me). I remember that Robbo scored a penalty that day quite clearly (I was in the BC). Started me on this crazy journey of love for you all - you reds!

Oh and the next game? 0-0!

As mentioned in the Everton match day thread, I’m reliably informed tomorrow’s programme will be a special tribute to Robbo. In the meantime I’ve dug out a couple of things to share with you here.

I, too, liked "When the Boat Comes in". Mind you that was in the days when I used to watch TV with my wife and quite possibly I liked it because that's what we watched!
