On the contrary, he captained his boyhood club to promotion after decades in the doldrums and has made a mint in the process despite being a fairly limited footballer.

I don't think he's ever going to feel bad about his career, and so he shouldn't.

i'm not so sure, like with dennis, not many championship clubs can afford his wages especially if burnley get promoted and his wages get adjusted accordingly. Burnley has their parachute payment, only a few clubs could afford.
 
I think it's more to do with him being out for over two months with a broken foot whilst in the meantime their current defence is keeping clean sheets for fun

Burnley have conceded nine goals all season... nine

That's the lowest in the entire football league and by some distance. They'd be insane to change a defence that's working so well regardless of how good Joe is

Yes on wages, good point, though assume if he's moved out Burnley would pay a proportion. A couple of promotions on his CV and generally looking too good for the level* in spells would help though.

I wonder if he looks at Sotty M's career choice with some green eyed monster - different player/type but he seems to be doing well in Spain... good for him.

* In the right system - I still think he can do a job in a three at the higher level. Maybe that's what will happen next at Burnley?

That must be approaching a league record if they finish the season on that trajectory?
 
Lovely piece in The Guardian which is basically Joe praising the guy who took his place: Murillo.
It takes some character to be so generous and open in recognising that Forest just had a better option than him -- no bitterness, no pettiness. He's a mensch.

Joe’s career seems to have really taken a nose-dive.
In our promotion season we were worried he would be snapped up by a Premier League club.
I think Burnley were offering £12 million, but Forest held out, and Joe led us to a Wembley win.
Now, he can’t get a kick for Burnley.
I reckon Mansfield could do worse than making a cheeky summer window bid for him.

I think his passion for the club made him always give that little bit extra beyond what his natural ability is
Still think he is easily a top Championship defender - Just needs to find the right club and manager

Yeah he’s a top champ centre back and probably the perfect age for physicality and experience. If you go to a club and have a spell of injury then it is always difficult.

Did you see Steve Cook Scored against Leeds for QPR at the weekend?
They were under the cosh for long periods
He marshalled them to a draw

He's still a quality player

Jack Colback plays for them too and is doing okay
