Joseph Adrian Worrall (The Club Captain!)

Not trying to argue with you permanently Maxi but I think this is the contentious part, given what we (think we) know. :)

Yeah maybe, we don't really know what went off.

But in terms of people on this thread arguing that dressing room influence isn't important.

I love it how the consensus seems to be that Worrall, despite being a good dressing room influence, wasn't good enough and quality is the overarching factor.

But the same consensus opinion last season was that Lingard, despite being absolutely shite and on a tonne of cash, was a good dressing room influence and that he was worth the £100k a week.

You can't have it bother ways LTLF, especially given Worrall would have been a better dressing room presence than Lingard.
If indeed Joe was the one responsible for the team sheet links, which of course is just a rumour, then I would probably say that wasn't in the spirit of being a good dressing room influence.

I think the point regarding Lingard was his experience in the division which of course is ahead of Worrall and indeed a lot of our players. Up until leaving us he had been a PL player all his career with Man Utd and West Ham meaning he would know what it means to be in the PL aside from maybe being in a relegation battle.

I do find it hard to reconcile this picture of Joe as a staunch Nottingham Forest fan, doing all those things for the club DizzyBala mentioned and yet at the same time being responsible for leaking the team every week, something so clearly detrimental to the club

Personally I think those rumours are BS

I won't say, I just know categorically it wasn't Worrall.

Edit: Or, if it was Worrall, then that would have meant there was 2 people from the club at it...

Leaks stopped when Cooper left so maybe it was him all along. And thats why they fell out.

Cooper kept leaking the team sheet before Joe which was totally so not fair leading to Joe screaming at Coops "I hate you, I wish I'd never been born!".

Well, whether Joe's presence is missed or not, something pretty serious clearly went off between him and Cooper. In a matter of weeks, if not days following the win at Chelsea, Steve went from hugely praising Joe's character and professionalism in the aftermath of him tragically losing an uncle he was extremely close to, to, quite literally, banishing him - the club captain no less - from first-team training. As such, the decision to move Joe away from the situation (at least temporarily) was probably the correct one, irrespective of Steve leaving.
Maybe the issue was that Joe hardly played following his MOTM appearance.. Draw againt Burnley (but we were down to 10 men) and then sub against Luton.. Up until the end of the transfer window when all the new players were dropped into the team Joe and Mckenna had 7 points on the board from 5 games and we weren't terrible away at Man U and Arsenal. At this point we all thought that we had a mid table season ahead. All those new "better" players being jettisoned into the team at the expense of Joe, Mckenna and Yatesy coincided with our collapse of form and lack of team cohesion.. I'd have been pretty f**ked off if i was Joe..

In which case we can only guess that Joe forcibly expressed how "fuc.ked off" he was to Steve Cooper for Steve to demand that he trains with the kids?

Stubborn as f*** is Wozza, heart of gold though and if you told him to go through a brick wall for Forest he'd go in head first. People like him set the tone, not saying we have a group of bad attitude players necessarily but when you're down to only 1 maybe 2 that truly 'get it' it becomes harder for such a limited influence to take effect with the rest of the squad

Say what you want about where he ranks in order of our best defenders but his presence is missed

If it were a choice between Worrall & Felipe, Id play Worrall, on the grounds Felipe looks like he couldnt give a f***.

Bad burnt as scolded though: Worrall (other than that chelsea away performance) hasn't looked good enough, and is struggling in Turkey by all accounts.

Changing the team after the Chelsea game was the beginning of the end for Cooper. Whether he wanted to play all those new signings, some of which he probably had no idea about, is certainly open to interpretation. As you say it completely destabilised the team and the season. Probably didnt help the new signings either. Mad decision all round which makes me think it likely wasnt down to Cooper.

Thought i read somewhere that Joe felt that Coops publicly called him out for Lutons equaliser and it all went south from there. I remember the interview were Coops said "And the 2nd we were clearly just not strong enough"

I'll admit i was angry with Joe for a couple of months after it because as Captain you do not confront or undermine your manager in front of your teammates at a time when we needed unity more than ever.

Thinking back on it though, the lad has went through a horrific tragedy to an uncle he was very close with, had a stormer at Chelsea only to see Murillo and Omo bought late in the transfer window. Thats a lot to deal with away from football let alone on it, and the message coming out of those transfers was "You're not good enough".

Just a shame all round really
