James Trafford, GK, Man City.

We have two very good keepers, one out of contract, the other approaching mid 30’s but still very capable. Sels is a PL level keeper, for now….but those recurring niggles are a concern.

When we signed Ando, the Geordies took Vlach in a numbers game trade.

Man City take Ando and throw an extra £10m-£15m on top, we take Trafford off their hands in a £30m plus deal.

Number games aside, we secure our long term PL level keeper for the next 5 years at least.

Potential future England keeper.

Worth considering, in my opinion.

He'd be a massive risk, in my opinion. He looked nervous and error-prone when he got minutes for Man City this year.

I think we should stick to proven keepers in the future - it seems pretty easy to pick them up for relative peanuts.

Would be a waste of resources with Sels at the club in my opinion

Get a cheap, experienced safe pair of hands like Ortega has been. When we need another 1st choice keeper, that is the time to shell out on a younger one.

I’d be happy with Sels and Ortega but that’s being greedy and Ortega might well be looking for the number one jersey somewhere.

I don't see how spending £35m on Trafford makes us a better team next season, but ultimately I don't see the value for money there either.

He was fantastic at Burnley in the Championship, but they were also the best defensive team in the league where he had to make about 3 saves a game (I am over-exaggerating, but you get the jist). Same applies at City, and to be honest I think he has look error prone and nervous in most of the games I have seen him.

If he was going for £15/20m, fine because that is the going rate for that type of 'keeper. But £35m (I get the inflated fee stuff but I can't see City playing dice with that) who is only proven in the Championship... Personally let someone like Newcastle take that risk for me.

We spent about 50p and a packet of buttons on Sels and Ortega and both are better 'keepers than Trafford now, but I think they are better 'keepers in the immediate future too.

I'd rather spend a lot loss and sign Daniel Peretz from Bayern is Southampton don't get promoted. He has been a huge part of their turnaround.

He's got potential - but he's definitely not proven in the Premier League so it'd be an expensive risk. He struggled so badly a couple of years back for Burnley that he was dropped for Muric.

Edu, is that you?

Anderson for £30m + Trafford would be an appalling deal.

Never rated Trafford. Looked great in a Championship Burnley team that conceded almost no chances, but never stood out in his time in the PL. Seems to have a very high opinion of hinself too. Much better value out there for GKs, as Sels and Ortega have shown.

Might be biased but don't really think he is better than Sels or Ortega personally. What do I know though? Not much.

No thanks. Massively overrated for me. Looked poor at Burnley and just as nervy at City.

I don't understand why would would want to spaff over £30M on a bang average keeper that doesn't improve us.

I assume he means get them to add an additional £15m on top of whatever they plan on paying for Anderson, so say ~£115m and then in return we sign Trafford for £30m to fiddle the numbers like we did with Newcastle
Yeah that’s correct.

He certainly wasn’t poor laterly at Burnley.

Agree in principle, the key is to be proactive and not realise in September after the window that our keepers have hit the decline or injury button…..that’s my concern.

Plus, my suggestion is also linked to a financial number games if City want Anderson.

He's looked absolutely honking everytime I've seen him. I couldn't believe there was actually talk that he'd push Pickford for his England spot. He's miles off it.

Think he's better than he's being given credit for here, and certainly has potential to be the best keeper in the league.

But he's made a couple of shockingly poor career decisions that have massively harmed his development, firstly going to Burnley for a Premier League relegation battle when he'd never even played a game higher than the third tier. Then going back to Man City of all places again when he was nowhere near ready for the level of pressure, expectation, and lack of patience at that club.

Would be a great long-term signing if he was an option. Sadly I think the Man City tax will make the price too high. Will end up going to Newcastle, which is where he should have gone last year.

That wasn't at Premier League level however.

I've never been especially convinced by him either - though I'm not sure whether that's just a case of him being thrown into the deep end too early. I remember Gavin Bazunu succumbing to a similar fate (another ex Man City keeper) - was highly rated and thrown into the deep end by Southampton, and was largely awful. Barely ever hear about him now.

Granted Trafford is undeniably highly rated by people who know more about football and goalkeeping than me, so you'd imagine there's something there.

I do think both England fans and the media are desperate for another goalkeeper to emerge from somewhere to properly challenge Pickford though and maybe Trafford is a beneficiary of that desperation in a sense. It's only really Dean Henderson who seems like a potentially reliable alternative to Pickford these days. I used to quite like Nick Pope but it's fair to say his best days are now behind him, while Aaron Ramsdale's stock has plummeted since leaving Arsenal.

Everytime I've seen Ramsdale play in the last couple of seasons he's looked absolutely dreadful - yet only a few short years ago there was talk he'd be ousting Pickford from the number one spot.
