James John McAtee

Elliot on McAtee’s assist: “He can do things that others can’t”.
They all rate him and they’re better at spotting a player than we are.

Vitor's managed to start getting a tune out of McAtee along with some of the other players we wrote off earlier in the season. His man management seems to have been really positive and exactly what this squad needed. They are not bad players but they just need the right coaching and a manager who believes in them.

I also think part of the problem is the rest of the team at times can be so static and it limits passing options for someone like McAtee. Thats an area that we need to develop if we are wanting to progress.
That's always something you notice with Man City. It might be boring all that short passing weaving around and going nowhere. But what is noticeable is that there is always a free player to play the ball to because as soon as they pass, they run.

The way we played today suited McAtee. I thought he was very good. I don't see him as a winger or even a #10 really, he looks more and more like what the Italians call a regista, and next season I think we'll see him sit deeper and learn that role, the distributer. I think he's been miscast so far. That depends on how much he's trusted and whether he's still here, but I hope we keep him and get to watch him develop. Lovely footballer. Also showed a bit of bite today, which is encouraging.

I think he looks better & better with each match that he's given minutes.

He even put in a great saving tackle today.

Haven't been a fan but he's showing signs now....
Never heard anyone saying he has tackled, always too light weight and easily brushed off the ball. Good to hear though.

I noticed that this is page 84 of the topic and that's pertinent as it's my age and I was just thinking he's a bit like me. Wouldn't say boo to a goose years ago, but at my ripe old age I say things I wouldn't dream of when I was younger and, strangely, now I'm allowed to get away with them!

Not saying he anywhere near me, but as one matures and finds comfort in being accepted by one's peer group, one starts to find a confidence missing earlier. Perhaps he's fitting in now and maturing rather faster than I did.
