James John McAtee

Yes its not been ideal, in lots of ways. But good players show something, even if it's not their best. He's piss weak, mentally fragile, half-arsed. As bad as I expected him to be.
This kind of sums it up for me. I understand it can take time to settle into a new club, especially one with a manger revolving door, but you want to at least see something from them to give you some hope they'll come good.

We were down near container corner and there was something going on when McAtee was trying to take a corner. The assistant referee (Anthony Taylor lookalike) was stood by him and seemed to be having a go at McAtee or he was on his microphone. You could see that McAtee was trying to focus on taking the corner but all we could see was the lino yapping away and you could see this was putting James off. Some of us shouted at the lino to just shut up. Close up James does really look very young and I don't think the lino would have done the same if the likes of Murillo or Morato had been taking the corner (that's not a suggestion, by the way) . Of course, the corner that he took was poor and ended up with one of our players on the half way line. McAtee is clearly a confidence player but sadly without any at the moment.

I just don't get the high hopes for McAtee when he gets his confidence back.
All he has going for him is that he was trained at Man City, in the Pep way of playing - endless recycling of the ball back to the defenders.

Think this is problem. Has played parts for City in their system where they just recycle the ball which is far easier than expecting him to play even a bit like MGW, he is expected to run into spaces, move the ball under pressure etc but he actually struggles with those for example.
Shown flashes of talent but without the effort.
Hope he comes good or is sold on for a profit, think it will be the latter though.

Strange situation with McAtee. Like any player he can only get better by playing, but you have to accept that he's still learning and will make a fair few mistakes, but when he makes them then he is less likely to get game time given our situation. Vicious circle.

VP saying he's a "fantastic, magical" player.

Be nice to see it at some point pls.
Went on about how good he is in training as well similar to the piece that came out a few months in the papers.

Sounds like that lad that joins your Sunday League team and looks like Ronaldinho in 5 a side training.

Put him in a full size 11 a side pitch on matchday and he's a weed with zero footballing intelligence.

I'm still keeping the faith... but come on youth. Be nice to see it on Thursday as he did against Ferencvaros.

Did well to scythe their player down in the last minute when they were breaking. Apart from that the usual weak, ineffective cameo. Run of games? God, no! We're bad enough already.

Should we stay up then I would say he should get a years loan at a newly promoted club. He'd likely be better than what they maybe get more game time and also get regular Premier League experience.

Did a trick in their pen area, then gave the ball away.

Better than the previous efforts.

Poor Pereira is trying to get some confidence in them by saying the right things and giving them a few mins here and there.

Thought we looked a bit better in the 2nd half with Hutchinson, Ndoye (one of his better games) and Tiawo on the pitch. Green shoots of recovery. I'll take any positives at the moment.

Frustrating - he did some good stuff but than ran into blind alleys and lost the ball. Can see something in him, perhaps trying too hard, we might have been better off giving him more of a run out and when MGW came off we should have put him on instead

Yatesy defended a corner well. That's useful in our predicament.
