We've signed so many CMs that it's true though.
Mangala
Remo
O'Brien
Kouyate

With Yates still to come back.

Then we have Lingard, and likely Aouar to come for the number 10. .

Do we need Garner in at 4th/5th/6th choice?

Totally agree would be overkill at this point

He's a 21 year old highly rated English CM who can play anywhere in midfield from deep playmaker, box to box or even #10. Can play on the half turn and isn't phased by high pressure situations, he has the composure of an experienced midfielder but the athleticism of youth to go with it

He knows the club and the coach, we know the player and his attitude (important). As far as i'm concerned there's always room for a player like Jimmy and i'd be gutted to see him go anywhere else

So we become Chelsea and start hoarding players?

Seems pointless as he wants and needs games, we can't any longer guarantee that.

Freuler is 30, Kouyate is 32 both players have a part to play in the short term but they aren't going to be around forever

Freuler is a player I rate and think will do a good job especially this season, but the intensity of the PL probably limits his game time. Kouyate is probably being considered CB cover as much as he is a CM option

We can't just build a competitive team, we need a competitive squad and the more young talented players we can bring in the better position we'll be in long term. Players like Garner are exactly what we want at the core

Also with 5 subs it's much more feasible to provide game time to our players in rotation, especially with the workrate we demand from our midfielders. I'd be willing to bet a sizable amount you won't see the same CM partnership finish any games they start this season

I know all of that but 6cms for 2 spots is overkill. Unless we consistently start playing with 3 in the middle and not a number 10 then it's still overkill.

Kouyate is likely 6th or 7th choice CB if we're honest, so I don't see him as a CB.

30 isnt Old by any stretch Milner is still playing at 37? to a high level.

A 15-20m it just seems excessive, had we got him earlier and not signed someone else then fair enough.

6 Is too many CMs. I'd rather have 4 more expensive ones for the same money.

I would like to see him back at Forest, he was one of the best players last season and still only 21, we don't know how well the new signings will perform. Injuries do occur throughout the season and it's good to have quality backups. If new signings aren't happy not starting, they can always go on loan. 😁

You are right to an extent ATN, but the argument around building a side (in the future) around players like Jim will be one hes heard thousands of times at MU. I don't think it will wash with him given his personal history and I think wherever he goes he will want (almost) guaranteed football.

All of that being said I think if we play a 3 in midfield I would have Jimmy in there even amongst the multitude of options we now have...

The reason he liked being in Nottingham wasn’t the shipstones it was because he was getting a consistent start.
Offer him a squad role and he’ll have no interest-might as well stay at manure

He's 21 and not yet established himself at this level as a first team regular, let alone as a guaranteed starter. He's going to have the same problem wherever he goes in this league and specially more so with any of the big six. He's probably got a better chance of game time with us than with most other teams in the division.

He now knows he's not wanted at Utd so if we go in for him I'm sure he'd be amenable to the idea given he was plenty happy to come back to us on a season-long loan last season. He knows Cooper, he knows many of the players - although there's a lot of new faces through the door to get used to, he knows the coaching staff and he knows he'll be welcomed back by the fans. He knows Cooper's philosophy and knows he'll get an opportunity here. At 21 he's definitely one for the future and most probably one for the present.

So, looking around the League, who can realistically offer him the best chance of regular minutes? Because he'll want to be somewhere that'll actually play him. Who has the best availability for a midfield spot? It might still be us, but we'd also have to sell him the idea that a starting spot is probably 2023 and onwards.

2 words: five subs

Not my money, but 12 mill plus addons is chump change at this level and you would have to think he would come to us over anyone even if he had to fight for his place

Everton have made a move, although their priority is Gueye from PSG so no idea what kind of offer they've submitted for Jimmy

If our new midfielders can't take a set piece, then Garner is first in the pecking order for me. Right now we're limiting ourselves in that department.

Football guru Wayne Veysey says we are out of the running - I think we should now fully expect him to be pictured holding the number 37 shirt up at the wfcg singing the green green grass of home
