Gli azzurri 3 - 0 Grecia. Half an hour gone.

This could get embarrassing.

Cricket score.

Just as likely we just pass it around them. Jorginho, Insigne and Verratti are already taking the piss a bit.

... And have received suitably 'robust' treatment for their troubles :D

England v Italy from le Tournoi 1997 is on the England YouTube channel now.

Must have been one of Stuart Pearce's last appearances for England.

That's when I first realised Scholes was world class.

That pass to Ian Wright was one of the best I've ever seen; even had a touch of backspin on it.

Randomly reading Wiki.

Is this the worst performance by World Champions at any time in any subsequent football tournament?

One win out of eight. The eighth game at home to Cyprus.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_1984_qualifying_Group_5

And Enzo Bearzot kept his job for the following World Cup.

That was when qualifying groups were proper qualifying groups though.

I didn't see that one due to not being born yet, but the most recent in memory haven't been great at retaining a semblance of pride never mind the cup. Is it the additional pressure?

Italians are a somewhat pessimistic bunch ('thank goodness' in Italian literally re translates as 'less bad') and as every tournament approaches they never expect their team to do anything. So there never seems to be any pressure. At least not from expectation anyway.

Got a reasonable crop coming through though so who knows.

They always bounce back. A couple of tournaments doing "not much" and then the youngsters prove why the italian national team are amongst a very elite bunch of the greatest.

Loved seeing them win the world cup after the match fixing scandals. Loved taking the money off of my mates after they did too

There have been a bunch of countries win a major tournament and then flopped in the next one. But to not win any of their following seven competitive fixtures after becoming World Champions has to the worse case of that in history.
Only noticed it the other day. Seemed interesting.

Just me for the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup Of Champions?

An italy side with Belotti up from vs Messi and pals from that Argentina at the new home of the shagging reds, Wembley.

Currently 0-0 and bugger all has happened.

Cracking turn from Messi though.

I fear Italy’s lack of a number 9 means the rest of the games going to be a struggle.

Maybe. Might be one of those, taking a little break until the right job comes along things.

The Azzurri have been disappointing to say least of late so it’s no bad thing all round.

A thing of beauty.

Just read the gazzetta website that the Saudi National team are looking n need of a manager and the association has a few quid flying about and maybe Mancini is their man.

Mourinho btw, has already turned them down.
