I was listening to Price of Football which had a guy from Hummel on it. It's all guesswork but based on what he said I wouldn't expect to be able to buy it until late next month at the least.

Most teams will have shirts ready made and shipped from China or wherever they make it before the season is even finished so it arrives in the summer to sell.

But we didn't know what league we were gonna be in, and probably would have sponsor / (maybe even macron) issues, so just when that is all sorted can they start manufactoring the shirt and then wait for it to be shipped over.

When the first bit is done you could reveal it but you still need to wait for all the shipments to arrive to actually sell it.

Unless EM lobs it on one of his speed-boat tankers I wouldn't expect to be able to buy it until late next month. Hopefully not though!

Another possible factor to think about is that PRC is still following the batshit-crazy zero Covid policy and expecting it to have a cat in hell's chance of working with the omicron variants.

So they are still putting whole cities or areas of whole cities into quite severe lockdowns as soon as there's a sniff of covid.

Given that this is going to stop a lot of people from going to work and in some places going to close workplaces entirely with a very export manufacturing-focussed economy this is going to have various knock-on effects on the global supply chain.

No doubt this too would negatively affect the speed of them being able to ship out football shirts.

They're made in Vietnam so China's COVID policy is unlikely to have much to do with it.

Sadly, shipping from the Far East can still take 6-8 weeks + and then there’s the UK customs to navigate.

I assure you if they were made in the UK they would be much more expensive.

UK manufacturing overheads, minimum wage and transport costs means that there will only be small pockets of production here for fast response orders which retailers will need to pay a high premium.

The alternative to shipping by sea is airfreight and that’s all a bit of a disaster too.

In other words, we’re f**ked however we look at it.

When we had the bookshop, thirty years ago, we used to buy children's books from a publisher with their HQ (in fact their only office) only a hundred yards away from our premises, yet when we ordered books from them, we had to wait for supplies to come over from China.

We got the same answer as for the shirts, it was cheaper to buy from there and ship it over than to buy from a British printers. Plus, I guess these days, they probably couldn't get the staff because they were looking for better paid jobs.

So we have a better, more affluent life, but there are still drawbacks which we can't overcome.

I understand the economic argument.
However, the ethical/moral argument needs to be considered.
And so does the climate change argument.
And the geo-political argument.
Who would have thought back in the 1990's that one day the west would be brought to its impotent knees by Russia: not with the weight of armed forces, but by the simple act of hiking the oil and gas price, after spiking the west financial and monetary systems with corrupt money to corrupt individuals and political parties.
The current rampant food inflation is hitting the UK harder than any other country.
Why?
Because we produce less than 40% of our own food and rely on imported goods from countries where the factors of production, mainly labour, are much cheaper.
Trouble is, cut the supply line and we starve.

Being the son of a machinist (well till last year, we she decided to 'retire' to look after my son), I can 100% say that the quality of product you get from China isn't as good as the product you would get from the UK (I used to do a bit of summer work at the factory checking garments, so I have a bit of an eye for it). Some of the stuff I see on sale in some of the disposable fashion stores (Primark for example) wouldn't even be allowed of the factory over here. There are obviously exception to this from time to time, but I feel fairly confident in saying you will get a better product from a UK factory then you would from China.

The last football shirts my mum made was Chesterfield and this was at the time they had Kevin Davies up front in that FA cup run and they needed some shirts making sharpish. But he factory mainly did work for companies like Ron Hill in terms of sportswear. But Rzar is correct, the profit margin of getting something made over here compared to China shrinks dramatically. Hence why we get everything made over there.

She made garments, mainly for Marks and Spencer.
The inspections by M&S Quality Control staff were very rigorous.
If they rejected one garment in a batch, they rejected the whole batch.
It meant that every machinist on the contract as first rate.
It just seems wrong to me (a retired Finance director) to knowingly import shoddy goods made by slave labour to line the pockets of the greedy capitalists.

Not sure if Brexit has changed this, but you could get preferential import tariffs if you had goods made in a 3rd world country - hence many products being made in Vietnam and Cambodia
