Incident Involving Billy Sharp

We can't possibly allow beer mate - everyone turns into a rioting animal after half a pint.

I'll be strapped into my chair, where's the harm?

I’ve got the answer. Remote Land Mines. Give the players and officials the map before the game. Just before the final whistle it gets announced ‘THE LAND MINES ARE NOW ARMED’

Simple

Any barriers/fences would only have to be about 4 foot high. Enough to make it a bit of an effort to get on the pitch, but not enough to be dangerous in the event of a fire etc.

Often if people have to do something, even something as relatively simple as hopping a fence, they will think twice because they know it is illegal, whereas walking straight on to a pitch doesn’t feel like you are actively breaking the law, just sort of following the crowd.

So yeah, low fences and nicking people who jump them would do it I reckon.

He ought to be arrested for the naked photo of him doing the rounds on social media where he appears to have his genitalia embedded in a vacuum cleaner whilst a topless young lady assists?

Just remember, every second you spend on this incident is one you could be...

1) Enjoying the fact that we're going to Wembley
2) Winding Derby fans up about their plight
3) Winding Sheff U fans up about their defeat
4) Staring lovingly into the eyes of Steve Cooper

I'm sure that you are aware of the major downside being that in the event of an emergency, with a fixed fencing system, the crowd get crushed against the fences as happened at Hillsborough, and in 1983 at the City Ground itself - https://thecelticstar.com/nottingham-forest-v-celtic-the-most-frightening-thing-to-have-happened-to-me-at-a-match/

Now you might say that had excess fans not entered the ground then it wouldn't have been a problem, but if people don't go on the pitch you don't need fences.

If fencing was introduced, and please dun't let it be, it probably needs to have some kind of electronic release mechanism so that the fences can be quicky opened in an emergency. I could see that having it's own issues though as people crushed against it could end up being crushed on the floor when they fall through. The solution to that cold be to open the gates at the edges first to allow some lessening of the pressure before opening the fencing in the worst affected spot when the crush at the back has eased a bit.

I was there as a 10 year old and had no idea how bad things were. I don't remember the fans on the pitch. It felt like we were outnumbered by Celtic fans - I seem to remember Forest crowds averaged 15000ish back then

Whilst true, what looked suspiciously like some sordid combination of mechanophilia and group sex might be a little bit difficult to explain to his clubs‘ fans?

He might make a few quid out of it on PornHub, though.

According to Transfermarkt (for what its worth) 83/84 season was 21½K, the season before was a disappointing 18K.

Football in the 80’s was like that though. Chelsea averaged as low as 12k one season, leeds 13k, Everton 19k, Villa 15k, spurs 20k, newcastle 16k, mancity 19k etc…

Even our illustrious neighbours derby county who we know are the best supported team in the world averaged as low as 10k

Interestingly derby, despite their obsession with attendances (home ones anyway) went nearly two decades (1979-1998 )without averaging over 20k. It took a new ground. Actually apart from 1980 (avg 19k) they never got over 17k average in that period.

The capacity probably wasn’t more than 20k latterly

By the mid 90’s it’s capacity as all seater was 18300. But they only reached an average 17k once. That 19 year period I mentioned was definitely a lack of demand. I’m poking a bit of fun at them as to be fair the football brand was tarnished in the 80’s and the facilities at the baseball ground obviously we’re outdated. But the way they talk about their attendances conveniently forgets that they near enough doubled their attendances on the new stadium bounce.

Well you might disappointed, but everyone isn’t, Sheffield United.

Would they be disappointed if they had done that to a bloke in the street?

This will kick their boneheads off again.

The idea that the police would investigate this and charges get brought through cps on just a few grainy videos. It is quite obvious there are a network of cameras in the ground which will have been reviewed as well as what the players have said.

They should be disappointed in their two idiots but its really telling that they refer to "Nottinghamshire police" and talk about Paul Heckingbottom writing letters about safety in the workplace, but don't acknowledge that they players and staff should be better behaved (I also personally think their prick of a manager incited a lot of the behaviour that was wrong on both sides of the equation).

The same police force found the idiot that nutted Billy Sharp within 6 hours and he was in jail by teatime the next day so credit where its due they acted swiftly and effectively, perhaps being from South Yorkshire its something that they are unfamiliar with.

Completely agree. Just feeds into my view that this a small minded and myopic club devoid of any principles and simply taking another opportunity to be “seething” because they haven’t got the maturity to do otherwise.
There are only 2 responses to this situation and they are 1) we will help the police, without reservation in their enquiry and 2) anyone found to have done wrong by the police will be properly punished by the club. We can never condone the breaking of the law by our employees
