Ibrahim Sangaré of CÔTE D'IVOIRE

Once we took him and Anderson off we struggled to play out from the back. Neither Yates nor Dominguez are good at receiving the ball from the back four, especially against a press as good as Bournemouth's.

Need a couple of midfielders comfortable in tight situations, otherwise the drop off is too great.
Once Yates and Dominquez was introduced, the formation and style of play went more direct. This suits Awoniyi, the target forward who utilises his physicality and strength to control and hold up the ball. This also allowed Forest to breakdown teams such as Bournemouth, through bypass the crowded or a opposition dominating a midfield. Yes it's easy to hold up and slow down play to which suits Sangare (and Ndoye) but it's detrimental to the advanced pressing style, or quick counter-attack system which was effective mid-season. The question is whether the manager desires to adopt this tactic.

On the subject of Yates, I'm tired at the criticism aimed at the player. Why is it players such as Sangare, Dominquez, or the other Midfielders have a quiet, or poor performances but continually receive 'a get out of Jail free' whereby they automatically start the next match. Many fans don't understand that a player can't automatically raise to the tempo of a match or automatically fit in when substitutions normally disrupt play. Also when substituted he now is expected to play with the second string, reserve or tired players. This season he has demonstrated at times that he has the capability to change a match but doesn't get the credit.

Firstly, I think you are making up the criticism in your head a bit. Most people rate Yates but it’s his role in the squad now to be a squad player, he’s just not better than others however does offer different things.

Secondly, even if you are using a minority view, players like Sangare avoid criticism others may get because he has been so damn good this season & let’s be honest, people spent 3 years criticising his breathing patterns, so not convinced he is the best person to use as an example that’s immune from criticism.

Spot on.

…using Sangare as an example of a player that gets a ‘get out of jail free card’ is absolutely wild given the years of battering he has taken

We finished 7th with Yates playing the majority of the games in 24/25. Our best season in 30 years. Shouldn't need to prove anything to anybody. Personally think if he played more this season we'd have finished higher.

There's definitely a market for someone like Sangare. He's reliable, disciplined, breaks play up, takes it and keeps it in unbelievably tight areas and he's strong. He's someone that allows everyone in front to play too giving a lynchpin and security behind them. He's a player that Man United would look a lot better for having.

With 2 years left on his contract I think he’d be a key contender to leave if Anderson wasn’t (probably) going.

Needless to say, we absolutely can’t be losing any key midfielders other than Anderson. We can expect offers for MGW too, and we have to resist them.

Sangare and MGW both need locking in for longer IMO.

Anyone remember the end of the first half against Bournemouth last weekend. Where he just twisted and turned about 10 times around the oppo players and didn't look like losing possession. That's one of the big differences between him and Yates, that confidence and strength when on the ball.

This is just as important as getting a few new signings in. If Sangare can stay fit, he'll be a key player next season, more so if Anderson leaves.
Yup, one of the highlights of the game!

Just voted for his goal vs Spurs as the goal of the season. Was tempted to go MGW vs City, but Ibra edged it in the end.

It's a good idea to give players time and trust. Chances are, you'll be rewarded, or at the very least have the peace of mind that there's no "what if".

I don't, I think we might have got relegated if he'd been ahead of Sangare and Dom this season.

Incredibly harsh on Yates who was was excellent during our fantastic run of form 24/25. Him and Anderson were a fantastic, energetic pairing.

Yates would have played more this season if he performed well when put in, he has had a poor season, only started to put in decent cameos close to the end of the season.

Indeed.

Don't get me wrong, I love Yates and think he's a credit to the club and himself - but he's not had a particularly good season. Granted, he's not had as much opportunity to impress, but by and large he didn't do enough to stake a claim when he was put in.

Would always have place for him in the squad though.

Not harsh to have Yates behind the others in the pecking order. Not saying he's bad, just not as good as the others who have played ahead of him. Stands to reason we wouldn't have done as well with a weaker team.

Ibrahim wins second place in my "Goal of the Season" competition, only Murillo's absolute half-the-length-of-the-pitch barnstormer against Fener beats it - IMHO:

I would love to see the Ivorian bang a few more crackers in!

Reminded me of the classic retro Nokia phone game Snake.
I love him. I think he’s ace.
By way of contrast, Ryan Yates is not particularly ace and nor is my longtime favourite Dominguez. By which I mean, they can’t be the Anderson replacement. Not even if they play together and we’re allowed 12 on the pitch.

Whilst I think the rumour is bullsh*t, imagine getting a good fee for Sangaré and Ndoye, whilst being able to keep Ando for another season.

Yeah, keep the Ivorian please, replacing him would probably cost more than Forest would get in revenue.

Not worth it.
