Ibrahim Sangaré of CÔTE D'IVOIRE

Apparently picked up a bit of an injury against Sunderland, hence being subbed at half time.

Hopefully it's just a precaution. Don't expect to see him tomorrow.

The reporter on Sky said he should be ok but obviously we will see in about 1 hour.

It’s great news if he’s fit to play in the remaining PL games. I think we’ll need all our midfielders at some stage in the remaining games, whether it’s starting or from the bench, he offers us something that others don’t (no criticism of others intended) and is one of our most level headed players.

Especially with the injury to Onana for Villa. They looked tepid against Fulham without him. That could give us a real opportunity to get a stranglehold in midfield as McGinn can't do it all by himself.

Sangare will be needed for the remaining games , he is a really important cog in that midfield
Not sure on the exact stat but we basically lost every goal he was unavailable due to AFCON apart from the narrow, perhaps undeserved win against West Ham.

Think that loss stat extends to games he played no part in/didn't start earlier on in the season too.

As opposed to last season when we were superb without him and fell off a cliff when he came back into the team in April.

If there's any doubt about him whatsoever he needs to sit out of the Villa game and prepare for Chelsea.
Don’t you think that given our last two PL wins that VP will go with his strongest team for Villa? If the gap to Spurs was 1 or 2 points, I’d expect more first team players to be rested, but as it is I’d imagine that he’ll be likely to field what he considers to be his strongest team.

Not sure this is quite right, I think the absence of Aina and Wood hurt us more. Ibra didn’t start the losses at home to Everton and Brentford last season.

Indeed. The drop off started well before Sangare came back into the starting lineup up.

Teams had figured us out by then and there's an argument he should have come back in sooner.

Teams figured it out anyway but didn't think we were as good as it as we were doing. In the Bournemouth match they showed it was possible to do that and still beat us. Everyone else then parked the bus

I remember a bit of a painful cup tie against Exeter where they did the same and took it to pens, we couldn't break them down at all

I think he will go with his strongest team but for me the priority is still winning on Sunday. Win that and we're safe barring an absolute miracle.

Had both Spurs and West Ham not won last weekend we could've gone into the Villa game with safety virtually assured but unfortunately that isn't the case and there still remains a threat to our Prem status. If Sangare can only get through one of the two games then personally I'd be saving him for Sunday.

Not really the cause though was it.

Nor is it true, he started 6 games when he came back from injury, we won 3, drew 2 and lost 1.
Two of those wins were cup ties that we won on penalties after he had gone off. When he eventually made his full comeback two months later it was won one, drew two, lost one.

Even with that being the case, we lost 3 of the 4 before he came back into the team - so whatever way it is painted, it's not true that there is any correlation between him coming back & us falling off a cliff.

Never said it was, just correcting your stats! For what it is worth, I think we are a far better team when he plays than when he doesn't regardless of result.

I think that he definitely makes thing different style wise, but I don't think that was the reason for the drop off. Really down to Wood and Aina being injured, not being able to play our backup left back Moreno against Villa. Murillo gifting Everton a win. Morato not tying his shoelaces.

I'm kinda happier now though. Pereira is more fun than Nuno.

Sangare is another one I expect to be missing tonight.
Nothing has been said about his injury other than he will have a late fitness test after training with the squad.
Vitor is very canny with what he says to the media.
As my Mrs observed this morning, he is known to tell fibs about who is available and who isn't.
And if Sangare is missing it is another blow to the team because despite struggling he is now a bedrock of our team.
