Football and holidays don’t go together.

I spent 20 years never booking a holiday for May half term just in case we made it to a play off final.

I bought test match tickets for Headingley one year and then realised they were third tier play off final day. We beat Yeovil 2-0 away so I flogged them off cheap! Apparently it was the coldest day a test had ever been played in so maybe not so bad.

The away scheme has its flaws, mainly with the lack of options for non-season ticket holders and I think they've indirectly created a larger closed shop, however I do like that they've published the away points in a table and informed us of how many fans are actually in the scheme.

Will the 1960 (or whatever the number is) change throughout the season? So if someone on 48-50 points doesn’t bother going, presumably others just below the threshold will overtake them and enter the exclusive band who are guaranteed a ticket?

Yep, the numbers are dynamic. So I suspect if you're a borderline case it might not be quite as much of a closed shop as people think.

It’s a moving target.

If most people in the 70% club take up their tickets then the required points will increase with each game, and the 70% people will remain asis.

If some of them are selective then people lower down (a bit) will have the opportunity to “break in” if they get lucky in the ballots, so long as their increase in points is faster than the increase required to be in the 70%.

I cant moan because I got lucky in the ballot for Liverpool but maybe if you do get the ballot come up for a game they should make it you cant apply for the next away match that way it spread round but it looks like everyone should be able to get 3/4 games in possibly 5 if really lucky I can live with that

Not everyone has a driving license.

The club could issue photo id as a condition of being in the away scheme, and this must be presented if requested.

Keeping the photo ID of children is extremely problematic and in most circumstances it must deleted after an ID check and not stored.

Yeah i think off the top of my head 1170 successful out of around 2300 applied or

There has only been one ballot so far with the new system, so you can't possible have been 20% successful, it can only be 100% or 0%.

the new system - threatening those who get caught using tickets issued in other supporters names - is designed to increase chances of those eligible for the ballot getting tickets.

it's early days. one game -(and we don't know what the odds of winning the ballot last season were) - but yesterdays data , and folk like yourself saying their experience last season was 1 in 5, suggest it has done exactly that.

I’ve seen Coventry are doing ID checks for their first away game. Like I said the other day I know Sunderland, Leicester and Man Utd fans who’ve had this too. I do think anyone who passes their ticket on is taking quite a big risk. Hopefully it’ll happen less under the new system.

That’s exactly what they’ve done. I’ve been locked out completely. I used to attend several away games a year before promotion, as an exile in the NW. Bolton Burnley Wigan Stoke Preston Blackburn. And through opportunistic and persistent browsing, got City, United, Sunderland and Fulham tickets last season. But my race seemingly is run now.

This has pushed Pro Members further down the list than they were last season. To the point where there is no chance of getting an away ticket. Others can shout me down if that's wrong.

I read it as anyone collecting duplicate tickets for ones that didn't arrive, having to provide photo id at the collection point.

For their cup tie down at Plymouth they are doing a random selection who won't get a digital ticket but have to pick one up at the ground using photo id.

I generally have no idea but assuming you are correct, those same SC holders who have bought the bolt on, must have dodged the likes of Fulham, Sunderland etc last season as they would still have taken precedent over members?

I reckon we will be fine for the odd few games this season.

Pro members have been pushed down the queue as all SC holders can now purchase away membership.

However, the club is taking steps to minimise abuse of the system - specifically supporters handing tickets to fans without requisite status, for example away members handing tickets to fans without away memberships . This should increase the chance of tickets becoming available to pro members.


By definition, the tickets reaching pro member tier, are the less demanded - less attractive - fixtures. A combination of things like match date and time, perceived club status and travel logistics. Chances are Brighton, Hull, Ipswich and maybe even Man U, if it says on Boxing Day, will reach pro members. Maybe others.
