Hashtag United

A team of YouTubers called hashtag United are joining the football pyramid at tier 6. They have a global fan base, regularly have over 1 mill views on YouTube and have played friendlies against some pretty big names (albeit staff teams and ex pros).

It seems likely they will have fairly high attendances for that level and will have a professionally edited highlights package of each game.

No team like them has ever existed professionally (well semi-professionally). Am I alone in being quite excited to see how they get on/how far they can go?

They are actually joining at the bottom of the football pyramid which is nine promotions from the Premier League, so in one of the local tenth divisions, rather than the sixth division that you have stated above.

How far they can go is anybodies guess, exuberance, passion and energy will count for a lot initially, however like any organisation structure, resilience and a good deal of luck will be required to sustain them after the initial excitement has worn off.

Being the cynical bugger that I am, I don't see it lasting long, it's one thing to talk about it, but totally different to actually do it, especially under the microscope of social media.

Yes, its different and fair play to them for having the balls to put themselves in the public spotlight. However, I'll eat my hat if they still exist in 5 years time.

Where's me hammer?
Which if memory serves me well level 10 puts them in the eqivelent of 1 tier below Heanor Town and Long Eaton United... and 2 above Eastwood and Hucknall.

I remember FC united being a fad... everyone was on board while they were flying through the leagues but when that stops so do the followers.

This new team will be interesting as a voyeur if nothing else. Will they be able to hack being everyones cup final?

It'll be hilarious when some old school centre half snaps one of the pretty boys in half

If they do turn successful and let’s say get to the conference south, it’s a whole different kettle of fish having a decent online following to having them present. You also have to consider the majority of its fan base are kids, with no real local connection to anywhere.

Saying all this, it’s a different idea and could be interesting to watch, as gimmicky as it is.

A million Youtube views a month is an audience. Doesn't matter if it's in the ground or online, what will matter to advertisers is volume.

They could easily get enough capital injection to rise up the leagues quite quickly if the management structure is in place and capable.

To blitz the very lower leagues you're talking £50k-£100k max, or 10p per viewer from an investor point of view.

Will their fans (if they get any actually turn up) only be able to chant in 'text drivel'?

"We 8 Nottingham Forest..."

"2,4,6,8. Who do we app reci 8..."

Somebody had best invent 'how to give a virtual reality kicking' just in case.

The FA are still corrupt and this shows it in my oponion.

How many teams are there trying through the normal channel's to get to that level and on what basis have they started them at that level?

It can only be down to money, it's the same in the women's game. Newly formed Man Utd Women go straight into the higher leagues, Newly formed Notts County Women go straight into the East Midlands Women's league,on the basis that they are signing players from that level, while the renamed Arnold Eagles Women, who have already been playing at that level for 2 years, are relegated because they are no longer Arnold Town!.

It's wrong and makes a mockery of the pyramid system.

And Hardy shouldn't be let anywhere near the women's game after what he did with the WSL team

It's based on health and safety regulation in relation to size of attendance.

AFC Wimbledon and FCUM started in a higher league.

Well the FA haver never used that argument for the womens lower leagues and I can't imagine the new Notts Women are going to be gettibg more than the usual 10 to 20 parents/partners etc, but maybe playing at Ilkeston in a decent non league stadium gave them the swing.

Anyone remember myFootbalClub.com where they crowd-funded money and bought Ebbsfleet United? A pro-manager made day-to-day tactical decisions, but the fanbase/owners made strategic decisions.

Was a bit boring in the end.

Just released a vid of their first pre-season training session- https://youtu.be/vI54a2ssDCk

Makes me really glad I'm not a footballer- looks exhausting

Reminds me of summers gone in the past.

Although we always ended up somewhere with a large inclined hill to finish the early sessions sprinting up.

Well, they got promoted and entertained me more than Forest did post Karanka. On the whole they’re a pretty good advert for the lower echelons of the football pyramid.

Just had a look on their twitter feed. It looks like they’ve opened an academy?

It’s all very slick and zeitgeisty.

It's really good, isn't it? I have enjoyed watching it. Be interesting to see how they develop in time.

They don't have an academy per say but they hold open trials every year and make it into a series, and the winner gets a contract.

Last year Scott Pollock won, who went on to join Northampton. They also have a lot of players from it in their squad this year.

The thing is because of their following they do attract some decent players (for that level anyway).
