In a way, it's a sensible move by Arter.

Looking at it in another way, it's the move of a man devoid of any inspiration or interest in his life, who would rather sit on his arse than actually do anything interesting or rewarding. I mean rewarding in the spiritual sense, not financial.

If he’s taken that deal then it’s pretty much confirmation that he’s given up on football as a career, which would suggest he’d be very hard to shift, so we might as well spread the cost out across a longer period.

I imagine at this point we are just paying him to sit at home.

But at £15k/week it makes him a more saleable player
I don't think anyone would take him now even on those wages though, considering he had to drop to non-league Notts County to get games last season.

As said above, its probably more about spreading the cost and making his wages more FFP friendly. He'll sit out the remainder of his Forest contract doing nothing Zach Clough style.

Should give his knees time to recover before he spends his retirement dog-walking and playing golf.

Try A Little Tenderness
There will be obligations on both sides; the club will be required to provide him with training facilities and access to medical/rehab resources. The player will be obliged to attend training, meet an acceptable level of fitness and avail himself for selection. That arrangement will be best for both parties in order to try and get him out on loan somewhere.

I expect he'll be training with the development squad rather than alone - whereby the PFA would doubtlessly be on the club's case - which could have an impact in one of two ways. He could be a good professional who, despite his situation, can have a positive influence on the younger players or, alternatively, he stinks the place out with a negative attitude?

Alternatively, he could have been offered the opportunity to go on gardening leave which he's agreeable with.

Biding his time and waiting for a Roy of the Rovers recall from out of the cold to the first team when the new manager comes in....

Pound for pound probably the worst signing we've ever made.
Zach Clough and Carl Jenkinson probably worse as we paid a transfer fee for both of them alongside the big wages ala Arter.

Clough was way worse, he was a 5 year deal and was probably our highest earner whilst being dropped by Rochdale

Also sat on his arse doing nothing after the Rochdale loan for the remainder of his contract. Spent the majority of his contract absolutely stealing a living from the club.

I asked Tails on the Atheltic talk-in about this contract extension.

He didn't want to give away too much because he's working on a piece on it.

Suggested the extension isn't correct but the club are working on a way to get him off the books.

Sounds to me like Arter might be going into the Bakery business!

Offer him a new career on board a container ship?

Does part of his contract mean he has to be a professional footballer?

I've heard that if we qualify for Europe then he gets a knighthood too.

But he should have the integrity to exert the effort expected of a professional footballer during that contract. He flopped at non league Notts FFS!

The guy's a lizard.
And how do you know he hasn't?

Whenever a player falls down the pecking order, it's always their fault, and they're lazy etc with no proof. Arter came from Bournemouth with a good reputation, and their fans said he was past his best, now he's lazy ..

Seriously, in cases like this I'd have working in the club shop or ticket office or something.

He's an employee of NFFC so if he's no good on the pitch put him to work elsewhere. I bet if he spent a week working in the club shop he'd think twice about not bothering for Notts.

Absolute waste of skin.

We deserved to be mugged off for buying a player based solely on the fact they scored a good goal against us and specifically for note learning that lesson after Aaron Davies.

I am sure if work asked you to clean the bins out and scrub the toilets you would rightly tell them to f**k off because that isn't in your job description.

The blame game solely lies at the feet of those who signed him and gave him the contract.

Yes, lets humiliate a grown man who signed a contract put in-front of him.

I'm sure that would go down great with the PFA and any players we were looking to sign in the future....
