Isn’t it more likely if we do sign him that it’s because:

- He was thoroughly scouted by our joint recruitment departments and identified as a good player, perfect for Olympiakos.

- He dreams of playing on the PL or other top 5 league and therefore might not be fully sold on a move to Greece.

- With other teams sniffing around, and all the scouting done, we’ve decided to take him for Forest rather than lose him to another team completely.

Probably more rational than all this snakes and ladders chicanery such as loans conditional on Olympiakos making the CL last 16 (very unlikely).

Still think he’ll be presented as an Olympiakos signing however. Who signs the contract etc might be something else, but I think he’ll be signed for Olympiakos. Don’t forget, we parked Pantilimon’s wages at Oly for 6 months without any media announcement at all. It only came out in their accounts I believe.

I honestly don’t see why people are having a problem with this.

We’re signing player we want . In order to get him we need to meet his condition of experiencing Champions League football.

The only way we can realistically offer this is by a short loan to Olympiakis.

Without offering this we wouldn’t be able to sign him at all.

As for Oly there is no guarantee he would go to them at all as other Euorepean clubs could offer the same and might be a bigger pull.

Frankly I think this is quite ingenious.
Yeah I don't get it either, now we are in the Prem I expect more deals like this to happen that will benefit both clubs.

Νo. The vast majority of players coming over there from over here had a distinct profile: not really needed over here, let's see if they can make it over there, they'll cost nothing to Forest. But they were yours to keep if you wanted them (you did it with Cafú), and yours to sell with profit (Kapino, Tachtsidis, Ansarifard). No comparison.
Come off it, with some of the shit we've had forced on us over the last 5 years or so we've got to have been doing somebody a favour somewhere down the line.... it certainly weren't us so he had to be you.

It just feels like a potentially messy situation to me, given that we don't know if he will be what we need in a year's time or if he would be willing to play in the Championship (should the worst happen and we get relegated). And it will undoubtedly hurt relations with Oly too.

If it does happen then I do hope we stay up and he is in our plans though, as he is clearly a very good player.

If he comes in Jan and we go down, that's 6 months in the Prem shop window and if he doesn't want to stay we make a tidy profit

If he goes to Oly in Jan and we go down, that's 6 months in the Greek/UCL window and if he doesn't want to stay we make a tidy profit

If we stay up, we have a Brazilian international AM in the squad for our second year in the Prem.

We can't lose as far as I can see, given that it's a free transfer.

I assume this one is all done and dusted but not sure why we can’t announce the pre contract agreement.

I think the rumours are that we have a agreed to sign him on a free when his contract expires 31/12.

If Olympiakos are still in the champions league we will immediately loan him to them for the rest of the season, if they are not then he's meant to come to us straight away.

Nothing official confirmed by us, the player or his existing club as far as I can see but some respected South American journos (Tim Vickery being one) are quoting it as fact.

Thank you - that makes sense of what I've read so far. Much appreciated.

Which makes the Lingard deal perfect as everything i've seen suggests they play the exact same position. If we don't keep Lingard we've got a direct replacement who could be even better.
With Brandon Aguilera Zamora to come into the side as well, who looks like an exciting prospect.

Short, medium and long term sorted.
