I asked this question to Vickery on his 5 Live show and he answered at 39m30s in to the show, hopefully available on BBC Sounds tomorrow.

Anyway, he said what we appear to know already; he coming to Forest at the end of his contract which expires in Nov so he’ll be here in Jan. If Olympiacos are still in the Champions League then he goes to them for six months. Palmeiras are wealthy so can wait for him to go on a free.

Apparently he’s technically better than Richarlison and the Fluminense fans thought he’d be the one to leave a few years ago when he went to Watford. The problem is he’s physically ‘frail’ which sounds a bit harsh but those were his words. He’s an attacking midfielder (lovely left foot). who can also play left back but he doesn’t like it. Great set pieces.

He’s culturally curious and a reader. Reads heavy novels and puts reviews on Twitter so he wants to see what life is like in Europe.

So there we go. He’s ours and most likely here in January.

Love it but i’m sure the greek fans won’t lol. Good deal all around if he does come in jan and helps us over whatever line it may be halfway through the season.

or if he goes to greece, I hope he does well and keeps them going in the champions league.

Don’t really see a problem with it if he’s as good as they say he is.

I don't get this, at all. Does this mean that the journalists who were reporting he was going to Olympiakos were mistaken all along? I doubt very much its a case of hijacking the move considering we are both owned by the same person.

Scarpa also seems very far from the type of players we have been targeting.

The whole thing is just odd.

So he's going to get on a plane in the 27 degree Sao Paulo heat in December and get of at Heathrow with it -2 and horizontal snow.

Then thrown into an FA Cup 3rd round game at Southend expected to make a difference.

I am sure he'll enjoy the experience...

To be honest, it might be best for both clubs if Oly are still in the CL and he goes on loan there for the rest of the season until next summer. Unless in Jan we look to be in a relegation scrap.

We can't really plan much in advance for whether he's going to be here or not, if it all hinges on Olympiacos' CL results!
And even if he does come here, he won't have had a pre-season to settle in (so will probably make zero impact this season) and might not be what we require come January anyway.

I can't say I like the sound of the nature of this transfer one bit. He should either join us this summer or sign for Oly in January. Signing for us in January (and then potentially being loaned out to Oly) makes no sense for either club.

I like it and don't think it's as underhand as others seem to think.

We have landed a top drawer player, for free, and have used the potential for UCL football with Oly as an additional draw to ensure he signs with us. He likely needs some time to acclimatise anyway, and would benefit from a full pre-season with the team, but the only chance to sign him on a free was January, or else we miss out on him.

If he comes here in Jan, great - we see what he can do and expect that his biggest impact comes in 23/24 once he has settled. If Oly are in the UCL then he gets 6 months there and then a full pre-season with us. Win, win, win.

He's the highest pedigree player we have signed in maybe 25 years (PVH?). I'm happy.

But that isn't an option, He's joining us as his contract ends. If his club are unwilling to sell (or certainly for a reasonable price) it's January or never. Given exactly what you say about him being better after a pre-season, if we have sweetened the deal for him by giving him the potential for UCL football for 6 months, AND we can bring him here as soon as the Greek season finishes and get an even longer pre-season, then that's simply great business.

I see nothing wrong with this. If the player is happy to be shared between us to satisfy his own career, them he gets the best of both worlds and so do we

and is the condition only on Champions League as of course now when you lose you just end up dropping through to the Europa and Conference comps?

We currently have 0 midfield creativity and will be hard pushed to get some in before the transfer window shuts after all the hard work done and fees spent so far.

Smart signing - even more so if we're in a relegation battle come January with little creativity in the side or a game changing AM on the bench.

It just feels like a potentially messy situation to me, given that we don't know if he will be what we need in a year's time or if he would be willing to play in the Championship (should the worst happen and we get relegated). And it will undoubtedly hurt relations with Oly too.

If it does happen then I do hope we stay up and he is in our plans though, as he is clearly a very good player.

And Oly pay us a huge loan fee? Fantastic. All above board, nothing to see here.
I honestly don’t see why people are having a problem with this.

We’re signing player we want . In order to get him we need to meet his condition of experiencing Champions League football.

The only way we can realistically offer this is by a short loan to Olympiakis.

Without offering this we wouldn’t be able to sign him at all.

As for Oly there is no guarantee he would go to them at all as other Euorepean clubs could offer the same and might be a bigger pull.

Frankly I think this is quite ingenious.

Yes very hyperbole wasn't it.

Forest sign player for free in Jan. Will loan him to Oly if they're still in the Champions League. Will not loan him if they aren't.

Of course when Chelsea hoover up every player on the planet and loan them to their Belgium clubs straight away, that is perfectly normal.
Spot on in my eyes.

This is a free hit. Best case he comes in and adds a spark in Jan. Worst case he doesn’t suit us or settle goes to Oly or some one else.

He could be akin to Eriksen going to Brentford (though different calibre) but could provide that bit of magic.

We're both owed by the same man. Is this gong to annoy one of his personalities then? I don't get this concern, Marinakis has his people who do the work and they must have come to an agreement that this is how it will happen. Whatever has been said on various websites is irrelevant, the vast majority of it is rubbish anyway.

It’s win-win for EM and Olly long term. Olly won’t earn as much revenue as us, so pretty quickly we’ll be doing them a lot of favours back i’m sure.

Not a bad deal for any players coming in, a year or less with us, then off to sunny Greece.
