Felipe Rodrigues "Morato" da Silva

Still wanting to see Jair playing so if Morato leaves he just may be making some appearances, even if it’s the last 20 minutes to see games out and rest one of the M and M guys.
Somehow I think he will come good for us, which would obviously be great to have a good backup when needed.

We have (in probably around this order)
Milenkovic
Murillo
Morato
Cunha
Boly
Abbott

Boly hasn't played for about 2 years and when he did (v Swansea) didn't look amazing but then Ange
Cunha and Abbott are kids, neither is really proven yet in the PL.

Morato is nothing amazing especially if he's starting in a 2 alongside Milenkovic. But he is adequate as cover or when he got used last season to bring on a 3rd CB near the end.

What we need to understand is bringing in cover players is quite hard as they are coming in to not play regularly (see also 2nd and 3rd choice GK).

If this is coming in the same move as us getting in a new 3rd CB who is more like Murillo in playing style (i.e. faster, better on the ball) and that CB will be our 3rd one and there is a good offer for Morato then that's a better sale to make than needing to sell Anderson or Murillo.

Fully expect Boly won't be in the playing squad next season and we also probably need to see whether Cunha or Abbott can step up as a CB. Abbott hasn'r done badly at RB but still looked a bit like a weaker link / a CB playing RB which of course he is and of course he's still really young.

Had Dyche played with 3 at the back? Maybe a 3-5-2 might be the thinking for certain games with Aina and Williams the wingbacks.

All depends on the type of player that comes in I suppose.

My assumption would be that if Morato (and Boly) move on we would be getting in another experienced defender. If Cunha were the answer (or Sean Dyche’s answer anyway) he’d at least be on the bench you’d think.
Jake O'Brien has looked good for Everton ever since Dyche left.

The problem may be more to do with Dyche than Jair Cunha.

Probably not always easy stepping in and out of the team and having different Centre Back pairings, but he was poor last night. Seemed equally poor in defending duties but also playing ball out. Doesn’t seem to have a strong skill set in any area.
