Evangelos Marinakis Megathread!

Have we considered the fact that EM is planning on spending £200m this summer, so said £100m just to temper expectations?

I imagine the trophy talk was EM Marinakis getting carried away in the moment. I do believe that long term he wants us winning stuff, if he’s expecting it next year he’s lost the plot.

It's partly setting the tone for the long run and partly really getting carried away in the moment (as is often the case with him). I found interesting Cooper's mentions of him. If one reads between the lines (very supportive, never interferes in football decisions), there seems to be both a sense of relief and comparison to, ehm, other Greeks at Forest in the not so distant past, and genuine appreciation of his passion.

The big lad himself said, after the Playoff Final, „Trophies are coming“.

In a big party of the shipping industry, Marinakis junior (who may have had a couple of drinks more than usual...) got up on stage at the instigation of the singer, held up first the Wembley cup and then the Greek league cup, danced to the rythm of I just can't get enough shouting Stevie Cooper and got a bit cocky saying to friends who are fans of other Greek clubs that they should not expect a title in the coming 20 years and that he and his father will also win the Premier.

One thing I can say about him is that he can't sing.

The thing I like is both he & EM seem to have an addiction for trophies. It is why I just don't think they will stop and settle for being a Prem team near the bottom, honestly.

And I do like Marinakis Jnr, he seems like a nice guy that is passionate. I know for a fact he is highly regarded within the club despite not being invovled day to day for long. EM calling him out in his interviews were not just him patting his son on the back, he has done a good job.

When you have a father who is a real character and tremendously successful, it must be a bit daunting, but winning promotion to the Prem with Forest after being entrusted with a job at the club, must make the young lad feel good.

It's not just a job at the club; MM already runs part of his dad's business, a new shipping consortium. EM prides himself that he was bringing junior to board meetings at his shipping firm from the age of 12 like his dad did with him.

EM is a very supportive person but tough too and that includes his son as well. He has worked a lot to build his son as a character and person based on the way he was raised.
His mentality on raising his older son comes from his father who was a real character too and EM adored him.

it's really interesting to read on EM's personal site a biography of his father together with his exact words about his father.

did i mention that he adored him?

Dear fans,

For me, from the very beginning of this journey, I didn’t see my involvement with our great team as an investment. It was passion for football, a passion for this club and for all the people of Nottingham to see their team back where it belongs. This club belongs to the Premier League.

We will give Steve and his team all the ammunition he needs in order to be competitive next season and will try not only to maintain our position in the Premier League, but to perform well because the sky is the limit.

In my life, whatever I have been involved with, I have always wanted to be at the top. It might seem difficult today, but it will be easier as time goes by.

Everybody here lives with memories from the past (with this history), but sometimes we don’t see the future because we always talk about the past. Now, we need to draw a line and write a new history for this club. Brian Clough did a lot for this club and had big achievements. 40 years later, Steve Cooper has done something similar, even more difficult. We respect our history, but now is the time to write a new history even brighter.

I would like to thank Steve Cooper and his team; I would like to thank the players and the Management team. I want to also congratulate my son Miltiadis, who from the beginning of the season has been involved with the team and kept the balances well and has overseen a magnificent turnaround.

Finally, I would like to thank our supporters for their magnificent support.

Be all safe and healthy!

Mr. Marinakis

A few bumps in the road but he learned from his mistakes and got us up eventually, and we've now got a brilliant set up now with Cooper, Murphy, the rest of the recruitment team and a category 1 academy.

Thank you Mr Marinakis, hopefully even more exciting times to come!

Trouble is its not the ambition that's the problem, its the other sides in the premier league.....

Why on earth does the OS keep signing the man's statements as "Mr." This is ridiculous.

Clearly, a sign of respect/pure abject terror, for fear of upsetting or insulting the big lad and this unfortunately becoming the victim of some sort of unspeakable incident.
