My best friend always tells me how his team, Galatasary, killed two Leeds supporters.

One day I will go with him to a match when he’s back in his home country, that’d be tight.

Their new modern ground, which is a flatpack style arena sponsored by a mobile telephone company, isn’t a patch on their old Ali Sami Yen stadium, which used to get properly raucous.

Atmosphere-wise it was better than anywhere else I've watched football. Didn't feel at risk, lots of women and kids in all stands, making loads of noise! Good banter in the bars pre-match too.

It's definitely a little lacking personality wise, but it's a tad better than a flatback style arena. Flatpack style brings to mind Derby Leicester Donny etc.

He’d be a solid league 1/2 right back. Suppose it didn’t hit off for him in the land of Turks.

Random thought. I know it wasn't universally popular, but I really liked that black and gold anniversary shirt.

Me too VP. Me too.

if eric is not asking for too much and he can prove to ch that he's still capable at this level , i wouldn't mind giving him a one year contract as a player-coach capacity. with both full backs likely youngsters even if we get buchanan or doig , having a old pro like lichaj can only help in their development.

No offence Marshall but that is the worst idea I have ever heard!!

Would be peak Forest if after spending all summer looking at full backs we end up starting the season with Bong down the left and Lichaj down the right, imagine the meltdown

Might as well just use Jenkinson. Which is the second worst idea I’ve ever heard!

Lichaj wouldn't be that bad. Though I do think we should usually move on from ex-players it isn't as though he wouldn't be able to do a job for us.

Nearly 33 now, barely kicked a ball last season in Turkey. Never much more than a decent defensive full back and robotic and awkward going forward. Nearly 33 now. Full back is a young man’s game now. Nearly 33 now.

Funny he’s fully 9 months younger than Lewis Grabban whom many expect to
“fire” the goals needed when proper service is resumed courtesy of Messrs Johnson abd Carvalho…
Mobile goal scoring forward play is equally a younger mans game….

Absolutely agree we need to refresh our front line too.

You're making a big deal of his age which really isn't that old for a full back as opposed to a winger or a striker, and as you say didn't really do much going forward anyway but was solid enough defensively.

Would do as experienced cover and if the plan is to play Gabriel or Richardson then he'd be handy to have around due to his experience like we had Dawson last season in the squad. And can cover both left and right back.

No idea what the impact of the pandemic was on the season in Turkey last year.

In all fairness Stats it would be a heart not a head signing and it’s against the Barnsley philosophy we’ve been sold so I can’t see it. Given that he’s hardly played last year at this age he’d also be a sitter for soft tissue injuries when he had to step Competitive action….
Other than that I like it!!

It's not ideal or the type of player we should be looking for as a first choice but it ticks boxes which would make it not a bad signing.

- Good character
- Decent record of injuries when he was with us before
- Leadership on the pitch
- Role model for our two young right backs
- Experienced
- Can cover both sides
- Cheap (if we can convince him it's better than nothing and that as a 33 year old he wouldn't be getting a big deal anywhere)

Even if your philosophy is to develop younger players you do still need some experience. People look at the Man U side of the late 90s but whilst they had younger players in Beckham, Butt, the Nevilles and Scholes they still had Giggs who had been in the team for a while and then Cantona, Bruce, Pallister, Schmeichel, Keane, Sheringham...
