Emmanuel Dennis

Worst transfer business of our recent Premier League era?

One more year to go...
Thing is most people probably thought he was a good signing at the time. He did well for Watford in a relegated side which fitted exactly what we were looking for, and he had a few moments of playing well, but tactically didn't look up to it. Maybe Watford just let him do what he wanted...

I'm not sure how many of our squad would have the technique to pull off the goal he scored against Newcastle.

There is something there, but probably not between the ears.

Players like Dennis are why it is great that Forest's strategy of buying young is now in place fully, we are less likely to have players like Dennis, who are more than happy to just wind down their contract and not actively look to move away.

Dennis was young.

He scored 10 goals and got 6 assists in 30 games in a shit Watford team in the PL and was 23.

He was a smart signing for a promoted side and didn’t cost that much at all. It just didn’t work out. I’m sure there’s many aspects to it, but he had the talent.

I’m just surprised he hasn’t found a club who wants him. Which can only be down to not quite hitting the levels needed when going on loan. I wouldn’t exactly call it a smart signing, it was necessary to get those numbers in the door though definitely.

I must admit though, I didn’t realise he was so young, which kinda makes it even more strange that he hasn’t found a club, unless we inflated his wages way beyond what anyone would take on.

When you consider how many we have signed since we came up it is amazing we have only really ended up with 1 absolute bomb squadder really.

Bowler is close but if you are fair to him he does make the odd pre-season appearence.

Bowler was probably back up if we went down and we outgrew him quickly. I almost think we have f**ked him a bit rather than the other way.
It's not worked out for anyone, but really he should have taken his chances on loan, especially the first one at Oly.

He just hasn’t found any form at any club he’s been at.

He had a few moments for us and you could tell he had some quality but he just never had any footballing IQ which you need at the top level. I was excited to sign him due to what I’d seen at Watford. For me his best game was at home to wolves when Taiwo was on the bench and Dennis did a lot of running on the left. Taiwo came on late, missed a chance and looked clumsy. Luckily he got his sharpness back quickly and went on that brilliant run so Dennis was back out the team.

Not every signing will work out, but the logic of paying what we did for a 23 year old with 10 goals and 6 assists the previous season was absolutely fine.

Main issue was that Cooper didn’t fancy him/he didn’t fit into his system. He’s a player you need to back to go out and make mistakes. I think it absolutely shattered his confidence and he’s just never found any form on loan anywhere. He’s also probably paid more than teams would want to now take a punt on him for, hence him bouncing around on loan but never leaving.

Will he ever find his Watford form again? It feels unlikely given how long it’s been. But he certainly had a heck of a lot of talent when we signed him.

Dennis actually could play, that's the worst part. He was actually really good for Watford.
Just dont think he's got the right mentality to make it in a top league.

He'll pop up in 5-10 years at some outpost and be a "remember when?"

We backed the wrong Watford horse when we bought Dennis, with hindsight should have got Sarr for similar money.
I think we tried to get Sarr too, not sure whether it was the year after though but we were definitely linked with him.

Iirc a swap deal was talked about for Sarr shortly (is the same window!) after we'd signed Dennis - Sarr had a move to Villa fall though and we'd obviously realised Dennis was crackers and/or shite!
