I thought Brennan was a bit lightweight yesterday. Just seemed a bit out of place. He had plenty of pace and a few tricks, but something was missing for me.

So there is a ready made place for Dennis to slot into. Then it's up to Coops to decide.

I think BJ needs to add abit of muscle then he will thrive at this level.

It’s easy to forget he’s only played two years as a pro and was a league one player two years ago, it’s a huge step up.

I look at the new attacking players coming in as a way to let Brennan develop without all the pressure of leading the attack for us as he did last season.

Johnson will be fine, that was no different to a lot of his games last year. He would be out of a lot of games but had the moment of magic. If he had halted his run for a millisecond we would all be saying what a great finish that was & that he's taking to the Prem.

Yeah he's in and out of games.

He also relies a lot on his pace and yesterday was not a game for that given how hot it was. He looked absolutely knackered by 60 minutes in and I'm surprised he wasn't hooked for Mighten.

It's worth noting they also had Ben Johnson who is normally a rapid fullback playing CB which probably didn't help in terms of using his speed.

We play Everton next week with Tarkowski & Coady - different ball game.

Johnson does what Johnson does and that is no bad thing. However, these first few games will show the boy what he must do if he is to make it in this league - it ain't just about putting the burners on and finishing he has to improve his movement too to beat better defenders.

Judging his development so far, you have to assume he can add improved movement to his game (not saying his movement is bad by the way). Having better players around him and competing with him for a place, might be all he needs in this regard.

I think having Neco behind him instead of Spence will help change him to this way of thinking as well. If he makes good runs Neco will find him no doubt. Spence was all about hitting the byline & "get out my way Johnson"

He was picking Taiwo out all games because he had very good movement.

Agreed. One of the most frustrating things in football is seeing a forward make a great run but having a midfield who can't see or play the pass the movement deserves. De Bruyne would make me look world class.

The other thing to consider with Johnson is that we've tweaked his role - he's learning.

Can't wait to see Dennis...

Snippet from the Mail, only opened it due to noticing it mentioned Dennis but

"Dennis the menace seals his exit
It would be fair to say not too many tears were shed at Vicarage Road when Emmanuel Dennis' move to Nottingham Forest was confirmed.

There is a distinct feeling at Watford that the dressing room will be a far more harmonious place without Dennis, with several of the players openly celebrating his departure. "

I'd have thought they'd link the "open celebrations" of his teammates. Anyone got the evidence? I presume it's on Instagram?

Yeah but whilst I agree that DJed was less inclined to pass he was in contact with Brennan far more, in that his natural instinct was to pile up the pitch at warp speed. That meant that more often than not the ball was brought up to Brennan and he didn't have to go look for it and there was an extra body on his side in the attacking third making things harder for the defender.
Nico is far more "traditional" in his approach but far more capable defensively than Deed-what Brennan can't expect is to have the ball in behind the fullback perfectly laid on a plate every time-that won't work at this level and hes going to have to learn how to recycle the ball with his back to the goal better..

Yeah out of interest I went onto Watford's forum to see what the consensus was regarding that article and his attitude, one or two of them seem to think he is a bit full of himself and thought he was selfish etc. (probably why he was their top scorer) but the majority don't seem to be buying the bad attitude thing:

- "Translation: There is a distinct feeling at Watford that the club hierarchy need to get yet another story into the Daily Mail about disharmony amongst the playing squad to spin something to make them look better.

I think what we got for him was about par and not too bad, he’s not homegrown and he’s inconsistent. I don’t think we needed to throw him under the bus in the Mail like we do with every manager before they’re sacked to try and make the deal look better."

- "Why would we need to make the deal look better? We all knew he was going, the price is about what we expected.

Not beyond the realms of possibility that he wasn’t the greatest influence around the side"

- "Of course it’s possible that the Mail could’ve just made it up, but just before we’re about to sack a manager a piece normally appears in the Mail about the players being unhappy and thus laying the groundwork for it.

You have to ask yourself where this info came from, and why?

We always apparently have bad influences in the dressing room, season after season, yet we constantly still keep having them, apparently anyway."

- "From the training videos and pictures, as well as from the post match interviews and social media interactions, I didn't get the impression that he was disliked by his teammates. I know that doesn't have to mean anything and he may be extremely unpopular, but this is our only source material."

- "More likely that they are speculating based on some of his previous behaviour, I reckon. The Mail is possibly the worst ****-rag in this country. That's no mean feat!"

- "It's pretty obvious he was an obnoxious ****, the best players often are. But if you're a good manager, you can handle the situation"

- "A player with a poor attitude, whose teammates didn’t like him, but somehow was picked every week by every manager, including the new one, and has increased his value by £17m in one season - and his new club haven’t found anything to detract from signing him either.

Yeah. I don’t buy that article."

- "Typical main stream media these days Im afraid why let truth stop a clickbait article ?"

- "Well it’s the Mail, so doubtless they have made some of it up.

However, it’s not hard to believe that the only player not taking the knee in a largely black team, a highly selfish one at that, wasn’t the most popular player within the squad. He clearly wanted to stand apart and that’s been the case at other times in his career.

Has he been a success at and for Watford though? Hell yes."

- "Isn't it funny how all the bad apples leave and it's only revealed that they are after they leave.

All the great guys are still there, just being great guys."

- "Steve Cooper only ever seems to get plaudits as a coach so I reckon he could get a good tune out of Dennis."

- "Convenient that this sulk happened at exactly the same time as we appointed a manager who hated attacking"

They seem like mostly a good bunch on there, hopefully Davis does the business like he did for us.

Was chatting to a Watford fan yesterday who said Dennis was 'brilliant but lazy'.

Is that bollocks?

I thought surely Dane and Cooper have done their data homework on him for km per game covered, number of sprints etc

Think Freuler and Aouar (IF he comes) can play an attacking role as well and allow Lingard to push on. Cooper is bringing in lots of options!

Brennan and Djed also played around 40 games together last season. Nico has played a handful for Forest and Wales with him.
