Milner at Right Back, Rooney on the Left Wing. Roy's gone crackers.

In fairness, I have a bit of respect for what hes done here. Rooney for all his faults, hasn't really played much football for a few months, so get him another 60 minutes under the belt is a good idea. But what I like is that he hasn't gone down the path of least resistance and asked Barkley to play on the left.

Too often in this country, we stick our strongest players down the middle and don't trust the more skillful ones in there. Joe Cole for example, would have been played as a number 10 if he was brought up playing in Spain. Man U took Nagawa, one of the most highly rated 10's in Europe and play him out wide. Good to see Barkley get a chance there.

Agree Tutts and again Roy Hodgson is strengthening my opinion that he's absolutely the right man for the job. I don't mind seeing Milner at right back, he works hard getting forward and tracking back and good to know whether it's a viable option when it matters.

Rooney just needs match time to get his fitness up. It doesn't matter where that is. But I also admire that Hodgson isn't playing him up front for the sake of it. Lambert needs playing time and he can't play anywhere else. Rooney is meant to be the best player we've got, so he should play anywhere along the front line. His influence on a game should still be evident if he's that good.

Hodgson is absolutely the right man for the job. I almost believed in God the day he was picked ahead of the spiv Rednapp.

I would love to see Roy walk away with the pot and a knighthood. If he does I will personally drive him to Liverpool so he can bare his arse at the Kop

Glen Johnson was the worst player on the pitch against Peru, sticking Milner at right back not too bad a decision. Get to see how he goes.

The Milner at right back is a great move, as Johnson has a poor game against Peru and may be thinking his place in the starting 11 is all but confirmed, so if Milner plays a blinder tonight he'll be worried and step up his game.

Rooney on the left will be interesting, he can play there but how it'll affect the England team is another thing.

And in regards to what Tutts said it's been one of the most irritating aspects of our team in recent years, with the left midfield role being taken by people who are natural centre attacking midfielders, only to be parred off on the left by lazy managers unable to do their research.

Think Milner at RB is pretty ridiculous, personally.

I think it just in case we're chasing a game personally.

I normally have a bet on Milner getting a card when he starts competitive games and it comes in pretty regularly. I'd worry with him further back.

I worry about our defenders full stop, anyone who can make a difference is welcome, hope Milner has a good game.

There's a story going around that Wenger wants to sign Milner as a right back, so maybe that has marginally influenced Milner's decision to say 'I can play there'

I agree with Roy's decision to experiment with Rooney by taking him out of his normal position, but not with where he's put him instead.
I'd sooner him leave him out of this game altogether; he's become a passenger more often than not these days.

I'm not sure this is really experimenting as James Milner is like our own Chris Cohen - he'll play wherever he's asked, put in 100% effort and do a decent job. There's little doubt this move was prompted by Glen Johnson's complete lack of defensive nous and no doubt the Peru game had Roy very worried. This is just a bit of practice for Milner.

Rooney - meh. He should stay up front and score goals like you used to. He's little more than average anywhere else yet people still trot out the "world class" line. He's not. He could have been if he'd concentrated on being a striker but he's too interested in dropping off and clogging up the space the likes of Lallana, Sterling, Welbeck, Wilshere, Henderson, Gerrard etc want to run into.

Look.

I've decided to eat salmon tonight. The last time I are salmon we beat Brazil.

Hope I haven't peaked too early, or that this salmon wasn't friends with Paul the octopus

What is the point of an experimental side now. So stupid. We should be playing our best team to get them in the groove and playing well for the first game, not breaking things up. Then just bring subs on if you want to give others game time. That's what other countries will be doing, playing their best eleven in the warm up games.

You've got to keep the whole squad happy. Playing the best eleven three times in a week would be dumb as hell. This is probably the hardest of the three warmup games too, so if we lose we can just shrug it off as the experimental game, rather than losing with our best team out and feeling demoralised. It makes perfect sense if you think about it

It's mostly about conditioning. The whole squad needs to be in peak condition - not just the first 11

That's right Tim, when our squad's at its optimum peak with conditioning we're a match for some of the top teams. Well, apart from the top eight or so.
