Agent talk.

Absolutely no interest from Forest.

Exactly this, were we safely in the playoffs, or sat in QPRs position with a degree of chance at the top 3 then I'd say gamble on a loan, but we aren't and it's looking less likely we will get into the playoffs so why waste the money.

I don’t want him particularly either but we do need a third striker and unless one of the kids steps up big time that’s going to have to be a signing. All it would take us Grabban to tear a hamstring in January and we could find ourselves in the shit.
So we need someone who knows where the back of the bet is.

I get all the lazy journalism stuff, but there’s another possibility and that’s that the newly minted geordies simply want him off the books as they see no role him there at all. With cash they have they might be prepared to grease those wheels to get him out

It depends where we sit in the league, by end of January we will know if we are with a chance of going up, staying in the league or in a relegation battle.

I can only foresee the middle outcome, of that's the case save money and use it next summer on a permanent player, if either of the other situations is a high probability then gamble.

I think Gayle is on ridiculous wages we could never afford, so unless as you say Newcastle sub them for the loan duration then he's too expensive for us.

I agree with all of that assuming Grabban doesn’t get injured. If he does mid table could very quickly turn to an unpleasant relegation fight as I can’t see whose going to score for us

It's a difficult decision to make, and without us knowing the finances involved we can only speculate.

Either way I don't think we are in for him, as others have stated seems like agent talk as both us and WBA have been in for him before.

So we have 2 first team strikers, though there is a player in Taylor somewhere he doesn't necessarily seem to be tactically the right fit for us, certainly compared to what he did at Charlton anyway.

As for the kids, not really sure we have much here. Our academy doesn't have as much of a record with strikers as other positions and especially not ones which have really achieved here, I suppose Brereton counts there and Walker is still in the championship, but aside from Bamford who we sold at 18, the last one to really make it in the first team here for more than a handful of games was Harewood.

Really can't see Will Swan bucking that, given that he's now 21, and that's about the age most strikers find their level, or at least show glimpses of it. So realistically we have to be looking at Dale Taylor and Larsson who are still U18s I think. I suppose if a teenager is good enough to be around the team they usually will be but surely they are both a fair way off being regulars. The teen player we do have in the squad is usually a sub and has been around that level for a while now.

A short term loan with no definite option to buy (though a possibility would be fine) of an experienced proven striker at this level would at least take the pressure off Grabban. But I don't think Gayle has played at all this season, 32 and potentially lacking in sharpness, and he's a diver and a cheat. Not sure he's the answer but the category of player is something we may want to look at as cover for Grabban.

Doesn't fit the profile of player we are looking at whatever way you look at it. Looks like complete rubbish to me.

I know that Nuno that I know that Nuno that I know
This is just made up rubbish and agent talk.

Just in case nobody had worked that out yet

Dwight Gayle will not sign for Forest.

It's simply a non-starter on cost and I doubt he'd fancy coming here anyway :sunday:

I think you are probably right that its unlikely but I'm not so sure that cost is everything in this case. If the Geordies want rid of him (and who knows he might be disruptive as hes not playing) they could easily grease the wheels of a move covering a couple of mil of his contract to get him out. That would be loose change for them now...

Back on the cards according to the press.

Probably lazy journalism again. No space in the squad for another loan signing, far too expensive to sign permanently and doesn't fit the profile of player we are looking for nowadays.

That would go so far against the MO of the new recruitment-model it's unthinkable.

Which means he'll probably be doing a photo-call in a red shirt on a short-term, largely reward-based deal before the day ends.

I agree but assuming Grabban is out for 2 months at least (which given he has a pot on his foot seems a reasonable assumption) are we really going to rely on Davies as our only proper number 9?. And aside from the "leading the line" bit, can we really expect Davies to consistently weigh in with the goals we need?. I don't think he was signed to scored bucket loads, he was signed to offer us a physical option up top. And if he starts every game he needs to be substituted on 80 mins and whose taking that role?.
Unfortunately I can't see any alternative but to sign a striker today....

Ultimately, if this is more than just lazy journalism, and Messrs Cooper, Murphy and Marinakis have made this call, I'll trust their judgement.

His last foray into Championship football yielded 24 goals, the one prior to that just the 23. Over 60 odd games that looks decent.

What am I missing.
