If he'd stayed, he'd have played probably about as much as Yates has, if i'm honest. He would have liked played more last season but obviously getting injured for half of it and the emergence of Elliot Anderson put paid to that.

He's gone to Botafogo and become a better player because he's played more. If I didn't know who he was and you said he was available in the summer for like 20-25m, I'd be pretty happy with that. With Elliot going, I'd imagine that having different profiles of midfielders would be advantageous for us.

Honestly, if Botafogo hadn't blocked Textor doing it, he probably would have come back in January.

That said though, it was a good move for everyone to move him on in the summer. Central Midfield is not a position we've been short in.

Had a poor last half-season following his return from a bad injury but by accounts went on to have a really good pre season with us just before he was sold. I'm certainly not opposed to his return here, unlikely now as it is.

No idea. Maybe something has changed in his game over the last year. Could be that when it says replacement it doesn't mean literally in terms of style, who knows?

I do seem to vaguely remember something quite a while back when Danilo was doing well with us about United having some interest in him.

I agree with you, but there's a fair amount of hindsight in that call.

He had a bad injury and then looked a shadow of the player he was before it.

Playing in Brazil is no way equivalent to playing in the PL. Scarpa ripped up that league and did little here, although his crypto scam issues probably didn't help there.

I think the club had to decide whether or not to take a significant offer and risk the player getting his form back, over not taking the offer and him not and having to take a massive hit on his resale, of course, there are two other combinations in between that.

20/20 hindsight is working.
Maybe we should have let him go back to Brazil on a season-long loan deal.
But that would expose us to the risk pointed out by another poster: that of him never recovering his pre-injury form, (which was a bit erratic to be fir, even before the broken ankle), and us not recouping any of the fee we paid for him when we bought his services.

Harry Hodge suggested on the wireless that Fulham are taking him.
To be fair, I saw nothing in his Botafogo highlight reels that suggested he’s evolved beyond what he was when fit for us. I suspect he’s just got more exposure for the national team playing in Brazil. I’d take him back but I don’t think he’d move the needle where it needs to be moved (assuming Ando leaves).
