Dan Assane Ndoye of SWITZERLAND

This "good World Cup" is a myth. He gets into good positions and then messes up the pass or provides a powder puff finish. Switzerland often delivered far more when he wasn't on the pitch.

Some of us, myself included, wanted to see his good positioning as a sign that he could turn into a good signing for us. The reality is, he just isn't good enough. Serie A is way off the quality of the Premier League and light years behind in intensity. Ndoye suffers as a result.
Very true and I’d add to that. The World Cup is in itself a misleading title… if it was truly between the best nations in the world then it might be as good as the champions league, but as it stands it isn’t. This is somewhat sad but a reality of modern day football.
The sad fact is that one or two half decent games before the last 8 of the WC were/ are totally meaningless when it comes to being a quality player in the most competitive league in the world.
Whatever any stats might say, my eyes don’t lie and for me this guy is simply just not good enough for us or anyone with any ambition in the EPL.
Ffs Glasner STOP picking this guy ahead of Jesus!!!!

Which of the best nations in the world were missing then?

Fact is national teams aren’t as good as the best club teams due to lack of familiarity with one another and probably never were.

Missing my point mate. There were a number of teams there that were worse than a host of European sides that didn’t qualify, that’s why the standard was crap until the QF. Hence the need to largely pay no attention to what any player did until the latter stages (imo).
Also, historically I can think of several national teams that were better than any club side at the time eg Brazil 1970.

The landscape of football has changed in terms of the levels. In the past the World Cup was the pinnacle and for English clubs getting into any sort of European competition was seen as an almost insurmountable challenge where even the most obscure sides would consistently school our kick-and-rush merchants.

Nowadays unfortunately, as we saw in the majority of the Europa League games last season, the 'dream' of Europe is a myth now (at least on the pitch) as in the Europa or the Conference league it's a walk in the park for Premier League clubs. It's actually a bit sad really but all of the top end quality in the game is now being drawn towards just one or two stand out competitions and anything achieved anywhere else is becoming more and more meaningless.

Obviously there will be exceptions but a player doing well in Italy or Germany for example no longer provides the virtual guarantee of doing well in England anymore.

My point is that international football has never been of a particularly good standard and I think you’re remembering it through rose tinted glasses. If anything there are more teams that can perform to a reasonable standard due to the globalisation of the sport and its this that gives the illusion that overall standards have dropped, when actually they haven’t, there are just more mediocre teams. Below a handful of good teams (France, Spain etc…) there’s a lot of teams that are all much of muchness. The folk that spent most of the World Cup banging on about the lack of quality on offer should be forced to watch Poland vs Cameroon from 1982 on a loop as punishment. I’m too young to remember Brazil 1970 but the fact they destroyed everyone else at walking pace suggests everyone else was a bit crap surely? But none of this has anything to do with Dan Ndoye so I’ll shut up now.

Fair points mate - my link to NDoye is that any “good stuff” he might have done in the World Cup is irrelevant in my eyes. From what I see is he’s just pretty crap in the EPL and I find it hugely frustrating that managers need to pick him for several games ahead of someone like Jesus before they also realise that he’s just a bit sh*te!

Just put through from half way line against Scotland. Fouled as about to shoot. Penalty given but VAR said outside box so free kick and defender sent off.

Good pace, not sure he was going to finish it though 😂

Not watching it but I'm sure he wouldn't have.

Genuinely don’t understand it. There is something there but you only see it 1 in 30 Prem Games.
It's fairly simple the way I see it, he plays against good players for Forest and can't cope. For Switzerland he plays against bang average players at best most of the time and as a result can look better.

This discussion has been had already recently but playing Scotland is like playing a Championship side. Most of the time international football is several levels below the week to week grind of the Premier League.
