Nicolo Schira has tweeted this morning that we've opened talks with Liverpool.
I think if Anderson has done his medical and that is all but done we can expect a midfield signing or two in the comings days. Time to close out a couple of these deals in the CM area.

I like Jones from a technical pov, his passing is extremely underrated and that's exactly what MGW needs behind him, think MGW was in the top 5, if not first, for passes recieved in the final third last season.

His off the ball work is a bit of a weakness but someone to do his dirty work is probably easier (and cheaper) to find than a good technician in midfield.

Took me a while to find but I remembered this graph floating round on Twitter, it's from December 2025, so 15 games or so at the start of last season and not sure how many minutes he played in each of those games, but still impressive.

His progressive passes and forward thinking is off the charts, Just his defensive side that is not as good

Good, we've got Sangare for the defensive side.

Last season we had 2 class defensive midfielders in Sangare and Anderson, yet together they were often not up to standard in positively effecting the game in midfield. Jones and Sangare (on paper...) sounds like a better partnership.

Agreed, that is a very impressive stat

The more I think about this, the more I like it. Plenty of Prem and Champs League experience so no adjustment that you see the imports from other league need. Technically very good and likes to play those line breaking passes.

Does like to get forward a bit more than Anderson did but that might not be a bad thing if Sangare is there to cover. We are going to have to pay at least £30 mil and we should. Jones for Anderson with £80mil left over sounds really good.

What I'd ask is, is this skewed because he is at Liverpool and asked to do much less defensively? Also has the style change that Slot tried to implement last season had an impact?

I recall seeing him score some spectacular goals when he was coming through the upper tiers of the Liverpool youth team, so I wouldn't be surprised if that side of his game came to the fore again playing every week for Forest.

He seems like the type who might thrive on being one of the main players in a team, rather than a bit part contributor.

Yeah it could be with the style and the managers at Liverpool that have not made him do much defensively

Of all the premier league midfielders linked over the last month or so including those linked in Jan.
Jones would be top of my list. So very happy with this.
Ideally at a £30-35mil price tag but even if the asking price goes up to £40mil, I’d still be fine, ignore that he’s only got 1 season left on his contract, will struggle to find a better young yet prem experienced cm for that price.
My only concern would be how his body copes from spending his entire career as a bit part squad player to being a first 11 starter every week.

Think Sangare could do the dirty work alongside Jones & both are capable of getting it quickly to MGW.

Sounds like a perfectly balance trio on paper, especially as we take care of the ball much more under VP.

Like his profile. Of course, he lacks in some areas where you'd want to see improvement but, I've always been impressed by his professionalism; gets on and does the job wherever he's asked to play. A squad full of this attitude translates as points.
