The Draw is to be held in Rio de Janeiro, interesting to see the „Pots“:

Pot one: Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina

Pot two: Colombia, Chile, Peru

Pot three: Venezuela, Paraguay, Japan

Pot four: Ecuador, Bolivia, Qatar

Spot the „Ringers“.

Re: Copa America 2019

See Qatar knocked South Korea out of the Asian Cup yesterday.

They are obviously going to have a push for the World Cup, but where are they nabbing their players from? Was expecting the Qatari team to be a bit like their athletics where only one of them wasn't paid to become a Qatari citizen. They'll need to exploit all Tony Cascarino strength lineage to put together a team capable of getting out of the group stage.

They did have a Carvalho in the side. Which would explain his absence in the last few weeks.

They have been using the ASPIRE academy for about 10 years to try and nationalize players, getting them early from places like Africa and playing them in their national division. It's full of young players, opposed to the normal Middle Eastern league which is full of journeyman players on big money. By the time the World Cup comes round they will have a huge pool of players to pick from, and more of them likely to play for Qatar simply so they can appear at a World Cup.

To be fair whatever they are doing it's working because they have had some good results at the Asia Cup so far.

The sound on my telly has gone like it's the World Cup in Mexico 1970. Anybody else?

3-0 Brazil

Coutinho with a brace (one from a VAR penalty).

Marcelo Martins (ex-Wigan flop) up front for Bolivia. He looks poor. Plying his trade in China these days.

Good side, Colombia. They probably would be World Champs now if they hadn't run into Gareth's boys.

Colombia's kit deserved the win. Argentina has s great shirt last year. It's awful now.

Bolivia 1-3 Peru
Brazil 0-0 Venezuela

Brazil were pretty bad in the final third but part of it was due to some very stout defending by the Vinotintos who are much improved.

Re: Copa America 2019

I still like Bolivia because in the 1994 World Cup they wore the same Umbro template as our classic away kit that I wore all the time. Probably especially during that tournament as I had 'Bohinen' and he was playing for Norway.

That's my only reason. Oh, and they played Germany. They were shite though. Qualified thanks to beating everybody at the altitude of La Paz, didn't win a game in the finals and have never been seen since on the world stage. Still, good kit once.

Re: Copa America 2019

My memory of Bolivia at that World Cup (slightly hazy as most of it was through the alcohol haze of the Student Union bar) was that their best player came on as a sub in the 1st game, was promptly harshly sent off and suspended for the next 2 games. And was also never seen again.

Re: Copa America 2019

Argentina only draw with Paraguay. And they didn't deserve anymore. They were poor and Paraguay missed a penalty.

Good players in Di Maria, Kun Aguero and Messi, but the Argies just don't gel as a team.

‎The Paraguayan keeper had nothing to do. The boy at Newcastle, Almiron, had a good game.

Re: Copa America 2019

The problem for Argentina is that opposing teams have sussed them out.

If you sit back and pack the Midfield, instead of trying to dedicate 2-3 players to „stop Messi“, then they have little else.
