The thing was you almost had to back him going into this season because last season you felt was building up to this year. You (or I) hope last year was a calculated season, finding out the players and what we would need this season. That is and always has been his track record, he has never been a quick starter at any club.

But you got a few games into this season realizing there actually wasn't a plan with him - he was just taking it game by game with no sign of improvement. And as we got worse it made the last year a complete and utter waste of time, which is probably why he gets so much ill feeling. It is like your dad telling you about what a great Christmas present he has got you, and then when it turns up it's a lump of coal.

I think overall you look at his entire time at the club it was up there with Megson, it was just utterly grim that plenty spent a long time waiting for something to happen and it never did. I never really oppose managers but he was really holding the club back. There was just nothing enjoyable about him and that's what football is about. You even look at the fist pumping today from Cooper, even a bit of passion like that we have missed for over a year.

Glad it's over and glad we are moving into the new era.

I know Doctor Who has been going downhill for a while, but I think even its most ardent fans would stop watching that shite. Rather than saving the universe, Hughton would spend half the episode telling everyone how brilliant the Daleks are and demoralising his companions by telling everyone that his Tardis crew is lacking in quality.

I thought he was a good appointment at the time, and generally I like to see us give managers time but being a Forest fan under his reign was just depressing as f*** really.

He only survived so long because of his past achievements, much like Gary "got West Brom promoted twice" Megson. Don't think I've ever felt so relieved to see a manager go.

Aye, same here. I thought he was a very good appointment. In Calvin's threads, other fans thought so too. But he dragged me down to despair. I mentioned on another thread a few weeks ago just before he was sacked, I've never been so depressed as a Forest fan. Hughton really got under my skin. He and his teams we so boring. Also did his best to distance himself from the supporters too. I was so happy when he left.

Whatever happens with Cooperman, at least I know Forest are capable of scoring a goal or two. Also the way he's embraced NFFC and the fans speaks volumes too.

Been watching some classic era Doctor Who (Pertwee/ Tom Baker era) myself recently. Was before my time (being born in the mid-80s) but the difference in quality between those episodes and the dross that has been served up recently is night and day.

Nice one Ash, well said. Have you seen Davros the creator of the Daleks yet? He's like the Dr who version of Billy Davies.

I've not watched any of the new Dr Who's, think last one I watched was Sylvester McCoy as a kid, but I thought the new ones looked OK.

What makes them so wank?

Yes  Genesis of the Daleks is a fantastic story, the Daleks feel genuinely threatening (unlike the recent New Year's day special) and Davros was brilliantly written to come across as an unsettling and unhinged mad genius. Comparing a story like that to the New Year's day 2021 episode really hammers home how poor Doctor Who is nowadays compared to what it used to be.

I've watched a lot of the classic era stuff and all of the new stuff since it's 2005 revival. In recent years, it's the writing and unmemorable characters that make it so bad. If I has one word to sum up Doctor Who in the last few years, that word would be 'boring'. I honestly wouldn't bother watching anything post-2017.

For me Alf, Dr Who has lost it's identity. Yeah the scenery and the special effect were tin pot but that's the way it was. The Doctors and his assistants did not come and go virtually every series.

I wouldn't say the new ones are wank, just not my cup of tea. They are unrecognisable to the Dr Who's of the 60s, 70s and 80s.

So you see the likeness between Billy Davies and Davros then.

Davros was a brilliant character; completely unhinged and a genocidal maniac.

Genesis of the Daleks was absolutely fantastic too.

First five series (2005 to 2010) since its 2005 revival were good IMO. The five series that followed (2011 to 2017) were hit and miss. Everything after 2017 is pretty much crap.

I agree that Doctors and other characters not sticking around hurts the identity of modern Doctor Who somewhat. Part of the reason Pertwee and Tom Baker's eras are so iconic were that both Doctors were in the role for so long and really made it their own, as well as the supporting cast (i.e. UNIT and the Brigadier) and companions. I don't think anyone will remember the current Doctor in 5 years time, let alone decades later.

Absolutely. Michael Wisher (RIP) who played the part of the first Davros, was also in many other Dr Who episodes too, including 'Terror of the Autons' and was along side Roy Skelton doing the Dalek voices.

Yes, they both walk that thin line between genius and madness.

Davies was insane.

I‘m not sure it’s fair to Davros to bracket him with that lunatic!
