[CBUPA] Jamaal Lascelles

Not really understand the animosity towards Lascelles. He was pretty much sold behind SP's by Fawaz, rather than him pushing for a move. He is a big lad, mobile, decent in the air and like others have said, he has played the majority of his career at the top level and that experience could be important. I'd be disappointed though to blow up our 'new' wage structure by giving Lascelles 40/50k a week if we got promoted.

Agree with all this. He's a good player and hasn't said anything bad about the club to my knowledge. I wouldn't want us to pay the kind of wages he is on now, but we went up and got him on loan for the season (with us paying about half his wages) then it wouldn't be a bad deal at all.

I think he's a good player still to be fair. But his wages will be more than he's worth, and it would be a signing that goes completely against our recruitment policy under Murphy.

I think that hits the nail on the head Ashley-hes not remotely a Dane signing for all the reasons you've outlined. That and the money make this sound like paper talk.

I also only understand the logic of looking at him if Joe has told the club hes going in the summer, because we don't need Lascelles in a starting back 3 of Cook, McK and Joe. If he does leave that's a different matter but if that happens I'd personally like to see a younger lad get the chance in that role

Just got a text from my Newcastle supporting mate that he's coming on a season long loan.
Your mate? What position does he play, and is he any good?

🤣

We already have 6 centre halves on the books, including two new signings, our current player of the season and our likely captain.

Can't see this being true. Would be a huge waste of money and of our remaining PL loan slot.

What happened to Jamaal? Two or three seasons he was their captain wasn't he?

This is a bizarre one. As people have said we've got 6 (good) CB's, with a range of experience including an old guy in Cook that "played in the prem" before, giving the senior experience which is the only thing Lascelles would seemingly bring as far as I can see-if Lascelles comes then Cookie is sitting with his feet up doing nothing IMO.

In addition, I know we are having our premiership cash bonanza, but its not unlimited and unless we've got Boris Johnson doing the books sooner or later we will have to make choices based on cash resources and even if Lascelles "only" costs us 5M for a year its 5M less to spend on the 3 or 4 gaping holes in other areas of the squad-to my mind if we fail to survive in the prem and get relegated its not going to be because the centre of our defence and goal keeping wasn't good enough, it will be because we can't get a foothold in games in midfield or we don't score enough goals. Put the 5M into those pots!.

Agreed. Might have taken him before we signed Niakhate and Biancone, but now? Nah.
Yeah this. Thought it was outlandish to start with, but now we have all the CBs we need. We won't sign anymore of them.

We now need a CH so why not?
Has he kicked a ball yet this season for NUFC?

Nottingham's dirty secret
We had a boro cast off in djed spence last season. Zincs a watford cast off, half our team was someone's cast off and we got promoted.
May have escaped your notice but we're in a different league now and didn't pursue any of the above.

Jamal isn't good enough for where we're heading.

I just don't get this obsession with bringing back former players.

If JL wasn't ex-Forest there isn't a chance in hell we'd even consider him.
I disagree ex Forest or not he is a solid Prem centre half and due to injuries that is what we need.
