[CBUPA] Jamaal Lascelles

Post tenuously linking us with JL as he's lost his spot at Newcastle and ain't going to get it back next season one Newcastle spend their billions.

Seems unlikely to me but could be a possibility if Worrall goes for a good figure.

No thanks.

I’m hoping we’ve moved passed bringing people back to the club who left us after a handful of games for us as a kid.

Wage demands would be enormous I'd imagine. I can't see the club spending that kind of money, even more so on a bloke who's 29 in November.

If we sell Worrall, we'd almost certainly go for a younger player with lower wage demands IMO.

Lascelles will end up at a lower half Premier League side or parachute payment club.

Aging player on a massive wage whose level at his peak was for a relegation threatened PL side.

No thanks.

I think he's a good player still to be fair. But his wages will be more than he's worth, and it would be a signing that goes completely against our recruitment policy under Murphy.

He's definitely good enough, got plenty of pace which is something we do lack in central defence. Also has the 6th highest stat for aerial duels in the premier league, another mountain so to speak. On top of that he has a very good attitude which I know Cooper values highly, a good experienced figure to have in the dressing room (another leader like figure so to speak)

His only weakness is that he's not much of a ball player, overall if he's available and we could get him for a reasonable fee + reasonable wages I see more positives than negatives

A good summary I reckon. If he was available for a reasonable wage I'd happily take him back, but dropping from £55k to whatever our highest wage is nowadays seems incredibly unlikely.

He'll do a job for someone in the Premier League. Good player.

This is a classic case of someone who could take a terrific pay cut if he really wanted to play for us. After several years earning big bucks, he could easily drop down to Championship wages (still big bucks to anybody with a real job) if he loved NFFC.

I'm sure he won't love us enough to forgo the money he could get elsewhere.

Forget him, we have better lined up.

I agree he's a good player but for his alleged wages, I'd back Dane and the rest of the recruitment team to find someone younger, cheaper and with a potentially higher ceiling in the game. If we could get him on a loan deal similar to Colback's after Newcastle sign 30 new players in the summer it might be worth a look though.

He's four years younger than Cook who we bought and he'd be bloody fantastic at this level.

It's the £ which will be problematic and probably his intention to play in the PL still.

Too many injury issues over the past couple of year to be worth a big wage.

Wouldn't be against it, but with Murph's strike rate at the mo I think he'll find better for cheaper.

If we got promoted hell yes.

Captained Newcastle for ages, must be a good pro

What's the C for in BUPA?? Is it CLEARLY??

Not sure I'd want him back tbh, never seemed to have an affinity to the club and just used us as a spring board. I could be wrong though as I don't know the guy.

Decent enough defender but do we need him? Worral, Cook, McKenna are fine with Panzo and Soh in reserve

I'd take him but I think we need someone like ben White, mobile and able to knock the ball around. He isn't great with the ball, so not certain it would work. I am thinking Cook's scouting expertise will be tested on this need, and I would say it is an essential one. If we just hoof it up from the back (if we go up) it will be a long season with our fate sealed by the end of March.

Yep, no disputing JL quality - but he is exactly the same as our 3 current CB's.

Not really understand the animosity towards Lascelles. He was pretty much sold behind SP's by Fawaz, rather than him pushing for a move. He is a big lad, mobile, decent in the air and like others have said, he has played the majority of his career at the top level and that experience could be important. I'd be disappointed though to blow up our 'new' wage structure by giving Lascelles 40/50k a week if we got promoted.
