Brice Lauriche Samba - „Magic Hands“

Dr Sheldon Cooper

You say that, but I remember Marlon King getting a standing ovation for punching a Bradford player (think I have that right?) and I believe John Thompson once getting the same? I actually think if it had been say Yates or Garner kicking out at a player on the halfway line it would already have been forgotten, or say a Stoke player ran past Johnson and he did exactly what Samba did but in the Stoke half we'd not really be talking about it. Its just different when it's a keeper and it gives away a penalty lol
People are only remembering the Stoke penalty in the context of the earlier post below

"During the 2021/22 season, Samba did not make a single error which directly lead to a goal being scored. (league)"

I mean, let's whisper it, but Samba isn't that good.

He's eccentric, and fun, and makes some outstanding stops. He also charges off his line a lot and is regularly caught in poor positions. He's also gone through some very sketchy runs of form (where many were calling for his head).

He's most certainly a very good Championship keeper but entirely untested at Prem level and whilst a cult hero and deserves immense credit for the playoffs, he is nowhere near as proven as Henderson, or many of the other touted options. If he goes, he goes.

I think that's the key thing. His style is one which you can get away with more in the Champ than in the Prem.

We need a to really tighten up reducing mistakes and making the most of situations at both ends of the pitch if we're to stay up. I feel Samba deserved a chance at showing he could do that at his end, but if he doesn't want that chance than that's one hell of an opportunity to get someone in who is a genuine Prem keeper, not one who's Prem ability has question marks over it.

I think Brice could have stepped up to the Premier League, but I guess now we'll never know.

Taking sentiment out of it though, Henderson is a clear upgrade on Samba. The club have moved quickly and are getting a top notch replacement. Can't ask for more than that.

It would have been panic stations if we had been in this situation with no Henderson rumours. We dunno who instigated his exit but it would have been uncomfortable going into preseason without a keeper situation resolved.

So, massive credit to the club for sourcing a replacement so quickly, and one that is universally thought of as a good keeper.

Even if he doesn't play for us next season he's doing a cracking job promotionally for us with him and the kids cutting about France in their forest gear

I just hope we get a decent fee for him. Everyone else is quoting us buttock clenching fees for 1/2 decent players and Brice is just entering the peak age and experience for a keeper.
Unlike many others on here I don't think its self evident at all that he wasn't up to premier league standard. We won't know but I think he could have been very good indeed and that a decent season might have lifted him up another level....

Yeah I think he could have made the step up too, but that said if we do land Henderson then he's probably a better keeper than Brice all in.

Hopefully we get a decent fee for Brice if he's gone. Only a year on his contract left but a replacement keeper, when we get one permanently, is going to cost £15m+, so half that amount for Brice probably represents a reasonable sale figure.

I'm just so surprised with all these rumours to be honest.

I would have thought Samba would have wanted nothing less than to test himself in the Premier League. He stayed with us in the Championship and was so passionate in his performances. It seems so strange for him to give it up at this point.

I still can't get my head around it unless he's homesick and feels he wants to go back to the top league in France.

It’s strange that no English clubs seem to be in for him.

In terms of what’s driving this, it seems to be clear that it’s the new contract offer. If he’s been offered about £15k per week - which seems to be the best estimate - then he could earn more than this at Lens and be nearer his family (his wife is French).

I think somethings gone tits up, either with Brice and his lot or our lot negotiating on behalf of Forest or perhaps both. Somethings probably been said that shouldn't have behind closed doors and instead of calming down and getting on with it people have lost their rag and everyones gone on the war path. Now no-one can get it all back in the box. Sad, but it does happen...

With us going after Henderson, obviously we are leaning towards that Samba will be gone and it is what is, that's the same attitude I've had about the whole thing. If not Lens I just think will be another French team.

Yeah that roller is f***ing awful, I don't know why he'd be doing that.

I have no idea what the situation is anymore. Can't imagine united would be happy if we turned around and said no thanks to henderson. Based on what legit journos are saying, I think he still goes.

He's seen how the fans have reacted to him going on Twitter to moan about the situation and decided to go on Twitter and defuse it.

Two wrongs do not make a right. Put your dirty laundry away and let the football do the talking.

What a way to totally shit on your onions. From hero to zero in no time at all, just because of a failure to employ - what would seem to most - as basic, common sense stuff.

He has to go now really. If he stays then the second he drops a clanger next season fans will be rabid for his blood.

We need that together spirit and positivity which got us up to keep ticking, and starting with Brice in net would be a risk to that.

It might just be me, but I don't really understand conversations on Twitter, especially this comment by Moussi. What is it that is particularly annoying about it?

Right can someone explain what's happening here please. Am I correct in thinking he's tried it on, Forest have told him to do one and lined up a better player as replacement. Samba's now realised he's made a right balls up of this and is desperately trying to get back into good books?
