At the time many scoffed about the Brentford rumours because of who they are as a club relative to us, but recent history has shown it's a good move for younger players to make and if they were offering more dough then I get it. I bet last season a couple of our new signings wish they'd signed for a nice, stable club like Brentford over us.

We all know his strengths and weaknesses, the point of his move other than to fill the FFP gap for us was for him to improve his game. No way whatsoever was he going to be allowed to improve at Spurs, they’re kunts.

What he really wanted was consistent game time at a middle rank prem level club… possibly Forest. Actually that Brentford move would have been the best for him.
 
It's got to the point now where I think he could only resurrect his career where he is truly loved and people believe in him. That's us. There's little-to-no chance Glasner would want him here though.

Failing that it would be a move to the Championship, where as someone else has pointed out, he would rip it up.

It's a shame because he was mostly excellent for us and that partnership with Gibbs White was a joy to watch at times.

Why would we want to resurrect Johnson's career?

His finishing is very average, his touch is average and he can’t defend to save his life. He’s alright taking his man on. His decision making is suspect. His pace is his only really great attribute and it worked when we built a system which essentially played entirely to getting the ball in behind a defence for him to run onto whilst we defended with 10 other players on our six yard line. We looked a better side with him off the pitch as we finished that season.

We fleeced Spurs and I thought so at the time. He’s a bang average bottom half prem winger who in the right system can look like a good player.

I think he’ll do well at Everton, to me he seems like a confidence player who needs to be happy to thrive. He’s scored a good amount of goals in the PL for us and Spurs for someone still young.

He does need to make this move a success though or he will end up changing clubs every 18 months and end up retiring without ever kicking back on.
 
It could work out for him at Everton as under Moyes they play on the break and his pace is greater than McNeil's but he also won't offer them any defensive work so I can see the fans turning on him.

It's a shame for him in terms of being hawked around mid table teams, you'd think that taking a £15m hit on him is pretty poor from Palace and in all honesty getting McNeil in exchange is a downgrade too so not actually sure what has happened there.

If it was a year ago, I confess I'd have been tempted to get him back but now even though he's at the sort of level of price that he's being maybe low risk for an option off of the bench I'd not want that to happen. He's not just stagnated, he's actually gone backwards.
 
Strange deal that doesn't reflect particularly well on Brennan. Apparently in January the South London club all but had McNeil signed for £15m and now are happy to straight trade a player they bought in that same window for £35/40m.

Poor business. Ah well.

I don't think he has declined, I think he just recieves more scrutiny. He still isn't different, he will float through games, run in behind & find space at the far post. That is what he was praised for here but without credit in the bank you get critised for not doing anything else.

He was the 1st name on the team sheet here & even then near the end he was left out in key games because we couldn't carry him.

In the PL he got 8 in 38 here & 11 in 33 in his last season at Spurs. He did the same thing, but he needs more to his game to justify it. Obviously his spell at Palace was a complete flop, 26 games & didn't even score once, and when your lack of all round game is normally justified by goals it's no surprise they are already taking a hit on him.

He is way too good for the Championship but he should have gone to a promoted side where the scrutiny is less & you can get credit in the bank quickly.
 
Moyes is probably the perfect manager for Johnson right now. He'll keep it simple and play him to his strengths rather than try to make him something he's not like an inside forward (Ange) or force him into a system as a #10 (Glasner).

If he's going to resurrect his career anywhere then Everton is the best possibility for him.
