Brennan Johnson

I'm not one for bashing ex-players particularly, but as far as Brennan is concerned, I have to say that we sold him at the right time, for the right money. I can't help but feel he's generally a little bit half-arsed nowadays. Content to go through the motions, by and large. Sorry if that's a little harsh.
I was thinking the exact same thing watching Wales last night

He has lost his x-factor. A decent back post poacher, absolutely nothing else & doesn’t seemingly want to add anything to his game.

Glad we didn’t bite on nostalgia.

I think that's just a tad unfair.

Clearly he's lacking a bit of confidence after struggling in two successive sides who aren't utilising him properly, but that doesn't make him a bad player in the same way James Garner wasn't a bad player here when Hughton was playing him as a second striker.

We got good money for him from Spurs so if was a good sale, but if we wanted a like for like Elanga replacement we should have just gone back for Brennan rather than spending the same amount on Ndoye who's struggled to adapt to his role here.

Johnson scored eighteen goals for Spurs last season, including their biggest goal since the nineties. Given their struggles, seems more of a failure of Thomas Frank's coaching than anything else that he couldn't use him.

He looks low on confidence now, but if he's injury free I'd be surprised if he doesn't reach double figures and look like a valuable asset next season at Palace. Unless Frank turns up there in the summer.

I'd rather have Elanga back than Brennan. I guess they have similar returns going forward but at least Elanga doesn't look like he's phoning it in for 88 of the 90 minutes, and actually puts in some hard defensive yards.
This season's Elanga looks as bad as this season's Johnson, to be fair.

I thought that he was putting a bit more in than I had seen of late. He was back at times making defensive tackles around the Welsh goal area. I don't remember seeing him that far back for us.
