Billy Sharp - Charity Fundraiser

Oh indeed, just a bit disheartened at the huge chunk gone, and I've posted the screenshot showing this on SM as obviously everyone knows it went over over 16k and so the lower amount needs explaining.

It is. I imagine that Martin House, as a charity, would be aware that what you see isn't what you get, but lesser mortals like us probably wouldn't.

Of course without the system it would be much harder to collect for the charities and they probbaly wouldn't get anywhere near the same amount.

I think too that accounts that are set up by the charities themselves may have different charges applied.

Well done Zoe. I'm sure you are glad it's done with now.

Yes that's the kicker, I think direct donations don't get the charges but JG refused to convert it once we had a nominated charity. Now I know why!

With regards the interest - I paid mine at the time of my donation - now I can’t remember if that was optional or compulsory - but the total showing on JG must be the gross amount - surely it would be better for all concerned if they showed the gross amount and the net amount so nothing hidden - everything out in the open and up front from the outset.

I don’t begrudge them charging a small amount, as they obviously have to pay for the website and an unknown amount of admin staff, but I think they should just be a bit better at displaying the costs upfront - it could just be coded into the software.
I did the same and I completely agree.
However let's not forget you've raised much more than you anticipated at the start.
Huge congratulations, Zoe. Well done!

£15k great achievement that the charity will receive from nowhere without having to spend any time or money on campaigns to raise money.

Forget the fees.

Amazing work Zoe, getting over £15k is an incredible feat and is going to go a long way towards helping a lot of people!

I'll bet.

I hope that you got/get a message from Billy or his management acknowledging what you've done for his nominated charity. I know that you don't expect it, but I would be disappointed if they didn't send you a well done and thank you because I think Billy is classy enough to do it.

I paid an extra (voluntary) amount at the time of the donation for the administration of the site too and it didn't show in the donation amount.

I say voluntary, it wasn't clear at the time whether it was or not, though the amount was variable. If I'd known they were going to take money off of the donation too I wouldn't have done it.
This is correct.
I recall that I added 20%, in addition to my donation , to cover admin costs and it seems that others have done something similar.
The final account should have indicated the amount by which costs were reduced by these donations.
Otherwise it was a waste of money.

Yea it's annoying. I added to my donation for "admin", which it seems now was just a money making ploy. Won't be using JG again and if I donate to anything on there won't be adding admin cash.

Very sly, and they have been a PITA from start to end tbh

I’m sorry that you had such hassle Zoe, but I commend you totally for your initiative and perseverance in the face of such obstruction.
Well done indeed.

I'm sorry to hear that Zoe.

I used to manage a customer services team and I would not be happy if one of my team (or myself) hadn't got back to you had you contacted us. Customer services and personal management are not a million miles apart. It's doing Billy a disservice not to reply with a thank you whether it comes from Billy or not.
