Could be the first one-eyed player at this level since Dean Shiels? He had a few years at Doncaster before moving to Scotland.

Had plenty of one-eyed referees though

The adversity that some people overcome is astounding. All the while I stuff Doritos in my face and complain about having to cut the grass with hay fever.

If true, it would be a concern.
Monocular vision would be a serious handicap for any player, but particularly for a central defender having to deal with high balls into the box.

Gordon Banks played a whole season in the North American League with one eye and managed to win the Goal Keeper of the year prize. He claimed it was only his peripheral vision that was affected.

I imagine that would have been found out long before he signed for our academy

Nevertheless, having just one effective eye is bound to reduce his field of vision. Also ,any reduction in peripheral vision means that a player can be easily “blindsided”.

Sometimes it looks as if players have no idea what's going on round them anyway, so having little peripheral vision probably won't be much of a hindrance.

I think you can get over the vision thing by moving your head, always works for me.

i only watched a bit of the first half and what strike me about fernandes was his anticipation and timing of his headers were spot on. will get better and stronger with age but will he stay at the academy where he'l be playing against higher caliber of academies in cat a setting or gain valuable experience playing in the first team of a first div team

I only watched a little of the first half as well and I gotta say, he’s a big lad.

Seemed to be fine until he had cramp in both legs. He'll be stronger for the next experience
