Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Any Time Now

Would this kid compete directly with Yates (especially if Garner does return)? How do they compare?

Different types of player Maitland-Niles is fast as f*** and carries the ball well but will offer less out of possession, wouldn't mind seeing him play the Zinck role assuming we're sticking to the same system

It is hard to compare, we haven't really had anyone like him for a while. But would suit a box to box role but he isn't anything like Yates. He is more like a mix between Spence & Zinc. He has the pace to recover and nick the ball a lot.

I haven't seen a huge amount of him though maybe I am wrong.

So many times he steals the ball or beats players with his acceleration. Would fit here really well I feel.

Also it means we can perhaps take a bit more of a gamble on a RWB signing with the knowledge that this guy is very capable of stepping in there if needs be.

He'd be great. Right age, right kind of player and great he can play a number of positions...

But, just because we want him. Doesn't mean he wants to come to us. For players at established top sides, we'll very much look like a side destined for Championship football in a year's time.

Hoping Steve and Dane can work their magic and show we're serious

I'm really surprised at the positivity of this link, I've always thought he was terrible tbh lol. I don't watch premier league too closely though so if it happens I hope you guys are right!

The last full back we bought from Arsenal turned out to brilliant so what could possibly go wrong

To be honest he was decent enough in the Championship for Ipswich when he was 17. He’s played about 100 games in the Prem, Serie A and for England since then.

He’s super fast as well, which fits our profile.

I’m all in on this one. Quote me when he turns out like Jenkinson!

Likely coming in to play the central role of our front 3? Where Zinck usually plays?

You think he seems sluggish?
My observations are more to do with his in-game awareness. I think this is one of the reasons why he fell out of favour at Arsenal, and why Roma have only given him a few games this season.

He will not be coming here for the RB slot as he's been more than vocal on his preference for playing in the middle of the park. Whenever I've seen him there, and at RB, he seems to operate outside of a system - more reactive in his play. Take a look at the Arsenal forum for the most accurate picture of this guys capability.

My hope, if SC wants him and he wants to come, is that SC has seen something that a good few other managers haven't and he can find a role that fits.

Let's be honest, Cooper is quite good at that.

The age group of AMN and below will all rave about Cooper, and he will be a massive pull for players to come here - time to use it to our advantage, starting by announcing his 5 year deal next week.

AMN feels more of an athlete than a natural footballer. He'd be an excellent squad signing but I'm unconvinced at 10m and significant wages.

He's always looked energetic and comfortable on the ball whenever I've seen him. Looked impressive in his early days at Arsenal. Not quite sure what's happened since then so maybe needs a change of scenery and the Stevie Cooper effect to get him going again.

Nottingham's dirty secret
Had a good read of the West Brom forum. They weren't impressed with him at cm but think he was a great RB.

As has been said, he clearly wants to play at cm. I wonder what Steve's plans are for him.

As a couple have said, AMN fits the SC target profile very well.

He's still young and has something to prove following his time at Arsenal and recent unsuccessful loan spell.

He's undoubtedly a good technical footballer, which is what SC will be looking for this summer, especially given the prior England U20 connection.

With only a year left on his contract and a potential deal to be done on a player with massive upside potential, I can't see any obvious reason for Forest not to pursue this one.

I have given up listening to other fans opinions on players. Never has the last few seasons showed that they are completely irrelevant and almost always come with some kind of agenda.

I'll look at the basics of what they do well from videos and stats and think how they could fit in our system and what Cooper could do with them. That's about it.

As said, I think Maitland-Niles ticks all the boxes in terms of profile and strengths as a player.

Agree with above. When players leave you'll always get those angry fans that muddy the opinion.

I haven't seen enough of the lad to know but if he's better at one position than the one he wants to play, eventually he needs to accept that right? That he provides more value to the team that way? On the flipside, if anyone can get someone playing to their ability, it's Cooper.
