Probably best we have one of these. Seems the youth squads are being added to at incredible number with no little talent coming in from abroad. The long-sightedness of Pearce is so refreshing.

Jorge Grant scored again today for the 21s, surely he's next in line to break through?

Good call HL. There's a few on here who follow the youth quite closely isn't there? I find it fascinating finding out about the players coming through and it seems things will only get better with the Pearce/Fawaz partnership, who both seem to be taking a real active interest in the academy.

I love our academy at the moment. We are really pushing on. It was one of the fundamental reasons as to why I started following Forest in the 90's. As a kid it always appealed to me when clubs bought through their own players, and we were big for it. We havent had it for a number of years now which was disappointing, but this new breed that we are bringing through at the moment excites me. I cant help but feel that when the team is full of young, home grown players it gives the place unison with fans, club and management a like. Almost like a family. I reckon come next year there might be a couple of gems pushing the first team, and that gives me an immense feeling of being proud again of my once mighty club.

A big thank you to Phsyco, Fawaz and everyone else at the club making this possible. In the day and age of FFP, this really will be our life line.

What was the final score from the match today? Anyone go? Who scored?

Forest won 4-3, Josh Rees, Lars Veldwijk and a Jorge Grant double.

Blackstock played for an hour and Kelvin Wilson also played the match.

#NFFC U18's winger Oliver Burke chipped in with an assist in the U21's 4-3 win over Millwall at The City Ground this afternoon.

I went to this.
It was a very pleasant way of spending a Monday afternoon and there were 7 goals.
Kelvin Wilson looked solid at the back, a different class really and played the full 90. Dexter played an hour and seemed to head every ball the Goalkeeper punted up into midfield.
Louis Laing looked promising and was the Forest captain. Josh Rees scored an excellent opener. Lars scored the second with a simple tap in. Jorge Grant looked a threat all afternoon and was the outstanding Forest player. There were about 250 fans there, just in the main stand and it was interesting how much the players shouted at each other during the game. Their third goal rolled under our keeper De Vries who was clearly upset by his mistake. He had made a couple of excellent saves to keep us in the lead at 2-1.

Interesting shout from the bench to an ex-Barcelona midfielder:
'Roger just pass it to another red shirt'

Re: U-21/U-19 Development Thread

To be fair our academy has done ok for the past 15 years or so it's been open. Off top of my head there's Prutton, Williams, Bopp, Jenas, Dawson, Reid, Harewood, Darlow, Lascelles, Perch, Bamford, McGugan and Morgan. With Osborn now coming into the squad along with several on the fringes I'd say our academy has been pretty successful. Of course there'll be more prolific times like the late 90s but we've kept a steady stream of players coming through.

I forgot about Williams, he was excellent for us, him and Bopp really suffered with injury. A real shame.

That is not a bad list though, most of them have played Premier League football and Darlow, Lascelles and Bamford will in the future. It would be nice to have 4-5 of that standard of player come through at once again like Jenas, Reid, Dawson, Prutton and Williams did.

Hopefully Osborne, Burke, Walker and Grant will be the ones.

It goes without saying I love Pearce; but isn't it a bit wrong to attribute the recent success of the academy to him? These players have been with the club for ~10 years.

Agree with this, and John Thompson is another one who came through and did well for a bit.

Just in regards to the game yesterday, Riera, Laing, Grant and Veldwijk were all bought in by Pearce.

Pearce has integrated the Academy again, and placed an emphasis and importance on it like no other manager in recent years really.

Calderwood was very into the academy, but at times it felt like he was chucking in bodies just to fill gaps in the squad that he did not have the money to fill otherwise.

Since Pearce has come in, it feels like there has been a real shift to create a true link between it and the first team, which you can tell from the way more people are actually paying attention to it.

Clearly, Pearce is not responsible for what the Academy has done over the last 10 years, and should not be credited as such, but he has made it feel far more important than it seemed to be under any previous manager from the last 2 decades.

Kelvin said Reira is a very good player who will play in the first team one day, but at the moment he's still trying to play the Barcelona way and taking up positions to receive the ball that you never would in England.

Sounds like they need to coach the Total Football out of him before he's ready for the Championship. ;)

Thanks mate. Not sure if that's good or bad.

I haven't attributed it to just him, but I do see your point. However, with the recent additions in quality and the pace he has got the academy moving forward by bringing in the right people, I'd say Phsyco has a lot to do with the success shown in the past 3 months.

I'm curious to know, where did Jorge Grant play? He seems to have been played in all sorts of positions (some unsuccessfully, like right back and left back), but really seems to have leapt forward in ability (or something) this season.

Just in regards to the game yesterday, Riera, Laing, Grant and Veldwijk were all bought in by Pearce.

Jorge Grant has been at the club for 2 or 3 seasons. He came from the Nike Academy. I'm not sure who brought him in, but I would guess that it's either Gary Brazil, or none of our current coaches. The other 3 players are certainly a sign that everyone at the club are taking the development of players very seriously, aren't they?

Re: U-21/U-19 Development Thread

Started as central midfield with Jack Blake. Josh Rees left, Oli Burke right in 442. After 35 Gilligan went 433 with Oli going up top with Dex and Lars, George coming to right. Persisted with that first few of second half before back to 442 from where he got both his goals (and hit post).
Agree with other posters. Kelvin imperious. Dex combative. Lars casual. DDV some acrobatics, shocker for their 3rd. Grant clever feet, nice tricks, good advanced movement for goals. Riera mixed bag brave and got stuck in but poor distribution and needs bulk up.
Very impressed with their 7 Fred Onyedinma (first team no 20) 2 composed goals - clone of Raheem Sterling. Gaffer and good lady sat few seats from us and appreciative of his efforts. Shame just signed first pro contract. If in squad when we play them shortly will be dangerous, neither Laing nor Wholey could cope.

Incidentally another game at City Ground next Monday 2.00 p.m v Birmingham. Free entry and parking. Get down if can please and give them some encouragement!

Shame that he needs to stop playing his modern way of football to play in England.

Jorge was number 8 attacking midfielder
Ribiera was 6 dm. Burke on the right wing and Rees on the left.

Pretty sure Jack Blake would have been captain as he has been this season.

How did he go yesterday ? Think he would have worn the number 4.
