As long as we're at this level we won't have the time or space to afford young players the chance to learn their trade in the first team. It's too competitive a league, too much at stake whilst Forest remain a relegation threatened side.
I agree with a lot of what you said in the original post but on this part I disagree. Lots of Prem clubs keep their best young players around the first team and often use them as subs. They don't have to be world beaters, just good enough to fill a hole in the short term. And I don’t buy this idea that the quality isn't there. It is often more about opportunity. At the moment we're playing the likes of Origi instead, with the £4-5m wages that come with that.

Any manager of any club in the relegation zone would play Origi -yes, even Origi- rather than an inexperienced youngster, unless that youngster was demonstrably much better.
