I used to drink in a place once where the landlord was like some Mike Baldwin cockney spiv. His mrs was some old slapper who was friendly but used to sit on the end of the bar and got progressively pissed as the evening went on. She used to go from welcoming but inane, to flirty and inane, to totally incoherent and occasionally abusive by the end of the night. Cockney would be shouting’Jaaaaane, jaaaane, fack owf to bed’, as she stumbled around insulting people.

Anyway Nadine Dorries reminds me of her.

Mick Lynch explained what was causing inflation quite well a few weeks ago. It wasn't wages. Mind you being a pensioner I m pretty much resigned to the fact that I'm fucked no matter what happens.

Inflation currently being driven predominantly by Ukraine war. Europe's response to sanction Russia has exacerbated it as Russia's response is to halt gas supplies.

Not just your energy bills going up but drives up the input cost of practically everything manufactured, which gets passed on to tertiary business which then gets passed onto the consumer.

Strong possibility Europe bottles it over winter and tries to broker a deal between Russia and Ukraine that lets Russia take Donbas in return for gas supplies being put up back to 100%.

My energy bills won't go up much more because I can't afford it. It'll get switched off and the thermals will be out. I already do most of my cooking in a slow cooker, 3 days worth of meals at a time.
To be quite honest if I could afford it I wouldn't give it the bastards. It must be terrible if you've got kids. The standing charge is a piss take.

No it was years ago in a pub in Lincolnshire. Me and a mate used to go in on a Friday for the pub quiz.

It started quite late, Baldwin would be reading the questions out and by then she’d be sozzled and shouting over him at the opposite end of the bar. She’d often attach herself on to a group. We used to avoid all eye contact and keep away .

Once another mate’s brother came in and was stupid enough to engage her in conversation and she plonked herself on our table for the rest of the night and was being very flirty with this lad. Bearing in mind he was probably 19 and she was 55 and her husband was 20 yards away!!

I think that’s Putins tactic.
I think also that it’s Germany that will drive this opposed by all of the smaller weaker nations who aren’t so vulnerable.
Could see serious cracks starting to appear in the EU as a result. I think that is Putins calculation

Yes, in fact, I have it on good authority that Germany plans to invade any other EU member state who refuse to adopt the Lederhosen as an official national costume.

Ha ha Strumms. But the point is serious. I heard an interview with the Greek, German and Portuguese foreign ministers last week where the other two said quite candidly to the German-“do you really think we will help you with regard to Russia and your (implied stupid) policy that left you completely vulnerable to them when you wouldn’t lift a finger to help us during the Euro crisis”. Or more diplomatically when you were calling the shots and saying the Euro issue was all of our own making and letting us sink…

If Putin chooses this could get very nasty and very difficult for Europe (mainly Germany) and my guess is they will squeal like piglets when he turns off the tap…

Come on, he is pitching here to a majority of older, white, southern, predominantly male voters, to get himself nominated as Tory Party leader.

He is absolutely going to go big on the “hammer the northern working-class shitholes” rhetoric, because that is his target when playing to those prospective Tory voters, who - frankly - don’t give a monkeys if those “low income areas” get absolutely mullered by an incoming Conservative government.
