A message to any Forest historians on the site

I'm Red Till Dead

Hi All,

Simon Tabiner at the Forest Museum has asked me to put a message on here to ask any Forest historians if they would introduce themselves to him via email.

The hope is that a closer releationship may mean that the club and the historians might be able to help each other in the future.

I would suggest a brief description of your past in terms of how long you've been following the Forest, how you use your research - writing books, creating websites or podcasts (with names) and your areas of specific interest, the Clough years, a specific player, the early years, etc.

Hopefuly knowing peoples areas of expertise might help in the long run to discover more of the clubs history.

You can contact Simon through the Museum email address - museum@nottinghamforest.co.uk You can mention my name, Nicola Anderson, as having raised this should you so wish.

If you know any Forest historians not on this web site could you please pass the message on to them.

Thanks,

Nicola

I’ve been in touch with Nicola separately about this but wanted to reply here to say this sounds a great idea and to thank her more publicly for her contribution to setting this up.

There are a few posters on here who might not consider themselves historians as such but who have many, varied and interesting recollections of our club’s fascinating past, so I would suggest a fairly broad understanding of the term historian might apply here.

My understanding is that many of the people working at the club are too young to have a detailed personal understanding of our history so there must be a role for those of us who can help them with our own memories, etc.

Thanks Richard, as I mentioned to you, the fantastic recall of Cloughie and Otis would be a great asset for any researchers to call upon if they were willing to provide input.

I've visited the museum Nicola and was impressed by how it's coming along, and so I'll seriously consider making contact to see if there's anything at all that I can contribute.

Your own material should prove invaluable.

I don't really see myself as a historian as such, I'm just someone who 'researches' stuff for a game, and I'm looking at getting a Forest Youth/Academy related site up and going in the near future (as long as my head decides to play ball, that is).. Although, I may get in touch at some point.

I'm sure that your knowlege would be a useful addition.

They have had access to my scrapbooks for about a year now and the current Forest Historian, Don Wright, has had it for many more. I reached out to the club a couple of years after I began the transcriptions I think. Of course there wasn't a museum at that time and they put me in touch with Don.

I've been a fan for a long, long time, but my connection with Nottingham over the years and my visits to the club, have been sporadic at best.

So the chat on here at times about matches and the trips to away games etc is always fascinating and interesting and reminds me that there is so much more to supporting a team than just reading the results and watching a few TV games.

I know where you are coming from VP, hell, the last Forest match I attended "at Forest" was a 0-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town over the Christmas period in 2022. How times have changed since then.

(I have caught Forest away a couple of times since, and I got to the preseason friendly under Steve Cooper at Eintracht Frankfurt over the summer of 2023 for which - frankly - I would have walked from Stuttgart to Frankfurt for).

That reminds me, Forest owe me a game against crack German outfit, VfB Stuttgart.
