If we're just buying them to loan out as insurance in the event we get relegated, which is the specific point you were making, then clearly that's not to bring them in for the PL. If we wanted them for the PL I'm sure we'd have bid for them. If we've bid for them and they don't want to come then it's a moot point, they're not coming. If we need players for the Championship then get them in when we're in the EFL.
You don’t always buy a player that is the finished article but that you see could develop in time. That type of purchase happens all the time. You’re right I made the point that if we were relegated we could have decent player/s already championship ready. Our stock is at its highest right now though.

I get what people are saying about buying players to loan out but I would prefer us just to buy players now that we think that can make the step up, then if they can't they should be more than good enough for the Championship.

You are just eating away the budget that is needed for this year really.
Point taken. We do have a limited budget and need a lot of investment for next season

Why? Do we have a game tomorrow?

So much panicking going on.
My comment was tongue in cheek (mostly)... 😆

Wouldn't mind a couple more in to be fair, just so the 5 a side in training has fair teams and nobody has to play rush goalie.

We have 25 under contract players that have played for the first team

We are owned by one of the richest men on the planet... well, one of the richest who lives in the Aegian.
He can't take all that dosh with him when he dies, so why not invest it all in the Mighty Reds?
And if anyone says "FFP" - we know of a bakery that went boom... just sayin'

The reality is, we need to spend the big money on the starting 11... We can't afford to get strength in depth and by doing so dilutes the quality we can buy for the first 11... The second, bit part players will really be down to Dane and Coops finding gems, and using young players from lower leagues who we might have pursued if we stayed down... There will be plenty of lads who could make the step up if used correctly and under the right management

Looks like they are prioritizing going for the best they can for the starting XI as supposed to squad depth. Still need both wingbacks and a couple of midfielders. The squad depth might have to be addressed after the season has started, by the time the window closes Forest would have played 5 matches. We could be struggling if we pick up any injuries though. Jan window will be crucial no doubt. 6 weeks to go, bench strength likely to be weak by the time the season starts.

Have to say it is ironic people saying we should buy players that we can use in the championship next season. For years, when we were in the championship, people were saying that we should only buy players who could cut it in the premier League. Let's maybe buy the players we need, for the division we are in.

Note - these guys made Robbie Findley look like Robbie Fowler when in reality he spooned over from 50 cm
I'm almost certain I could have succeeded in the MLS. Great league to make money in for being mediocre. Just regret not going on those American football camps when I was younger 😂

I think we will fill the squad out close to the end of the window when players are cheaper and everyone knows who they do/don't want.

I probably didn't articulate my point particularly well. What I meant to say was more, where our 2nd choice is sourced from -rather than where they should be playing. An example being, I'd have happily put a bid in for Twine who's gone to Burnley as a back up for MGW. We're going all out on first 11 picks .. but we'll need some ambitious, yet less understated squad players who Coops believes can make the step up.

Speaking of which (1/3 ain't bad), any news of Grabbs signing ?

Perhaps those players didn't want to be squad players and want regular football?
Most likely that's it. When you're approaching players and you're in the Premier League, they want guarantees on their position in the squad.

I think we've got higher ambitions and that's seen in who've we've been linked with recently.

You have to believe in your abilities, a chance to play in the Premier league against the best teams in land or another stint in the 2nd division. We are unlikely to find out the reasons.

I doubt Bournemouth have made any guarantees to Rothwell.

Basics of squad building is 2 players for every position.

We currently only have one full back at the club also we need 3 more of them.

Defenders we have just the 3 and if we play 3 at the back we need 6 or 5.

Centre midfield we need 2

Attacking midfield we need 2

Up front we need one backup for Johnson.

I still have it done that we need 10 if we don’t count Mighten and Ojeda as in the squad.

We are badly short at the moment but still time left. Some shrewd freebies would help the situation as well.

how much would man city want for Issa Kabore if liverpool wants 20m for williams ? No news on him since the report of his agent flying in to talk.

Its going to be another exciting year but in a different way. The excitement of who on earth will be in our team this season and how will they fare in the star-filled environment of the Premiership.

Since we have to hit the ground running to pick up points for safety from day 1, I do worry a bit that Cooper is going to have very little time before the season starts to get his tactics across to the new guys that will arrive late in the transfer window.

However, if anyone can do it it's Cooper!! :)

Transfer window doesn't close for 2 months. Think we'll need some patience, and not to get worried everytime someone we've been linked to goes elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure Dane and Coops know what needs to be done.
