Harry Arter

Couldn't agree more.

It's very easy for us all to look at it from the outside and judge, but we are all humans with feelings and we have no idea what's going on with Harry Arter.

Today Davy Propper retired from football at the age of 30 as he stated he'd 'fallen out of love with the game'. A fantastic footballer who thrived at PSV and had also done well on the international stage.

Robert Enke (the former Germany goalkeeper) committed suicide in 2009 as he struggled to get over the loss of his daughter in 2006.

As much as we are passionate about having committed and high performing players for the club that we love, I think we need to be very careful here because the loss of a child is incomprehensible.

Exactly, just because someone is well paid doesn’t mean they don’t have human feelings and emotions. If I lost my child my work would matter even less than it does now to me. Actually it would matter zero. Why would a footballer be any different?

In: An all round forward, a dominant centre back and as it currently stands a backup wing back. Total outlay c700k

Out: Two from the bomb squad on heavy wages, Carvalho which we may have got some money for and a couple of development loans.

Not bad going for four weeks work. Would like to think within the next two windows (not including this one) we'll have the squad we want and no bomb squad.

Hopefully he gets the move, can start fresh and hopefully get over some of his personal demons and get his career back on track.

We're doing a cracking job clearing the deadwood and unnecessary fringe players over the last couple of weeks, I thought we'd be stuck with with Jenkinson and Arter until the end of their contracts but if this deal goes through we'll have somehow found a way to get rid of both. Excellent work by the club if this happens.

There are some deals which are sort of rubbish and some which are completely rubbish.

This signing went off the rails almost at once and has never, even remotely, looked like working for either party since.

I'm sure all parties will breath a sigh of relief that it's over and all can move ahead at last.

Just seen this, excellent news. Not a bad player but far too much money wasted on him.

I agree, not his fault in respect of wages or even fee, in the end we pursued him we offered a healthy contract and he accepted but he has never got going for us and can't help feeling that we bought him off the back of him having a great game against us.

Who knows the real reason as to why we bought him, but the consensus on here at the time was that it was an excellent signing.

I was concerned about his inflated wages and that should he fail we are lumbered with a bomb squadder on huge wages (sadly I was right), but I didn't think he would play as little as he has.

As we so often do.
Lyle Taylor ran us ragged both times we played against his charlton.
And one Brian clough bought a million opound striker on the strength of a goal featured on Match of the Day!

As Djed comments above, Arter deserves a chance to get something out of what remains of his playing career, so this would be the best for both parties should it happen.

I can't see what's to be gained by those wishing to vilify Arter, particularly without having full knowledge of his personal issues, possibly adding to his injury problems.

In fact, Harry should be thanked, as in a perverse way, the failure of his type of signing probably hastened the change to the recruitment model we've since adopted.

That a good point Otis. I for one though Arter would bring us the sort of steel in midfield we were so sadly lacking after they'd let Watson go. Never happened. Indeed his ball retention in those early matches was shocking.
All that said, he'll go down in Forest's recent history as another 'past his best' experiment which didn't work out for club or player. Good luck to the guy at his next stop off but pleased to see him off the payroll and creating another spare slot for Cooper to fill with new blood.

Probably one of the best transfer windows in over 20 years .

And I suppose what this shows is that we look to confirm our prejudices. Whenever I'd seen him play for other sides prior to us he looked a very good player and at the time I thought this was a good signing so I can't honestly jump on the bandwagon and say I "knew" he would be a waste...
Its also funny how many people (not you necessarily Gamble) are ready to bomb squad him and bemoan the waste whilst at the same time go on about how Carvalho was treated badly when in terms of financial waste at least he was on a different level of pain....

I thought he'd be a good signing, but the rumour was 30k per week (turns out to be 38k) and I thought that was too much for us to risk. 2m a year for an aging player was always going to be a hard one.

Also I don't bomb squad any player, all players get a fair chance and second and third chances with me. Arter just wasn't played for what ever reason.
